[edit] Welcome to Wikipedia!

Hello MathsIsFun, welcome to Wikipedia!

Here are some tips:

If you feel a change is needed, feel free to make it yourself! Wikipedia is a wiki, so anyone (yourself included) can edit any article by following the Edit this page link. Wikipedia convention is to be bold and not be afraid of making mistakes. If you're not sure how editing works, have a look at How to edit a page, or try out the Sandbox to test your editing skills.

If, for some reason, you are unable to fix a problem yourself, feel free to ask someone else to do it. Wikipedia has a vibrant community of contributors who have a wide range of skills and specialties, and many of them would be glad to help. As well as the wiki community pages there are IRC Channels, where you are more than welcome to ask for assistance.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask me on my talk page. Thanks and happy editing, Alf 11:06, 1 September 2005 (UTC).

[edit] Edit summary

Hi MathsIsFun. I have a small request. I would like to ask you to put an edit summary more often when you contribute. I hope you don't mind. :) Thanks. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 02:42, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

Oh .. OK! MathsIsFun 07:21, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Braille-alphabet.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:Braille-alphabet.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --Fibonacci 01:57, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] COI concerns

If you have a close connection to some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred from the tone of the edit and the proximity of the editor to the subject, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:

  1. editing articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with,
  2. participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors,
  3. linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam);
    and you must always:
  4. avoid breaching relevant policies and guidelines, especially neutral point of view, attribution, and autobiography.

For more details, please read the Conflict of Interest guideline. Thank you. RJASE1 Talk 14:02, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] RFC discussion of your username (MathsIsFun)

Hello, MathsIsFun, and thank you for contributing to Wikipedia! Wikipedia has a policy on what usernames editors can use. Unfortunately, concerns have been raised that your username may be incompatible with that policy. You can contribute to the discussion about it here. Alternatively, if you agree that your username may be problematic and are willing to change it, it is possible for you to keep your present contributions history under a new name. Simply request a new name here following the guidelines on that page, rather than creating a whole new account. Thank you. -- RJASE1 Talk 17:22, 11 April 2007 (UTC) RJASE1 Talk 17:22, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

Your userpage seems to be an ad for a website with the same name as your username. It's really not a good idea to do that - Wikipedia is not a soapbox. Also, it seems like you've made lots of valuable contributions, and some of those will be questioned because of the perception some may have that you are editing in order to promote your website. It might be a good idea to change your username, and it might be a good idea to rewrite your userpage: it's good to mention your affiliation with your website, that's just being honest, but it could be a lot more limited. See this WP:ANI thread for some discussion. Mangojuicetalk 20:36, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Hexadecimal-multiplication-table.png

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:Hexadecimal-multiplication-table.png, by Bernard Ladenthin (talk ยท contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:Hexadecimal-multiplication-table.png fits the criteria for speedy deletion for the following reason:

I have maked an svg image, and replaced all links, this could be deleted now

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Image:Hexadecimal-multiplication-table.png, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 12:51, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Mif-120x60.gif

Thank you for uploading Image:Mif-120x60.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 16:04, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
