[edit] Scandals shaking the Swedish Social Democratic government
Having an entire article devoted to various scandals only is rather POV. I'd suggest converting this into a comprehensive history of the Persson cabinet 2002-2006 and include all aspects, not only the negative ones. What do you think? u p p l a n d 19:16, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
- Is this were I'm supposed to reply? =)
- The whole scandal article idea was originally intended to link to how the Reinfeldt-led "Alliance" has gained in the polls and why. I didn't want to ruin other articles about the party, the alliance etc with this text. I thought that if someone disliked the idea it would be easier to "clean up" if it was separated... =)
- And at first I created an article by mistake, sorry for that, is it possible to remove it or something!?? :^)
- And yeah, could be good to link it to a whole history about the Persson cabinet...
-
- Actually, articles can be moved from one title to another one. You are probably too newly registered to do so, but you will be able to do so in a few days. Having considered the issue slightly longer, I think you should try to use it to fill out the Göran Persson article, and perhaps some other articles on contemporary Swedish history. You can look at the Tony Blair article (which is a "featured article") for how to write political history through a biography. Whatever falls outside that framework can probably go into other articles. Just keep in mind that articles which exclusively focus on listing negative things can be seen as biased, even if all the negative things are notable and true in themselves.
-
- If you want to remove the article but keep the content (and also stop others from interfering with your work until you feel you are somewhat finished), you can create a subpage of your userpage to use as a workshop until you feel you are finished. Just create a new page like this: User:Matal/Workshop. u p p l a n d 19:44, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

- Yeah, I have understood that one can do that but I couldn't so I hoped it would "delete itself" if it didn't contain any text, go back to the way it was before I started typing sort of =) I don't really mind if others edit, move, or delete all of or parts of the texts I write. I won't get upset if someone starts moving around the text or so, I just didn't want to put the "scandal-list" in any of the regular articles since I thought it would claim to much space. A "scandal-list" will be experienced as biased if one thinks it is the complete and true picture, still the list is true in the sense that it expresses peoples feelings, accusations etc, it doesn't claim anything that can't be proven or is well-known.

[edit] Jan Scherman
I expanded Jan Scherman, rewrote some parts and added sources. Be careful with "weasel words" (look at that page, please!) If you say that X said so, then "suddenly claimed that he couldn't remember" or something like that, it clearly implies a lie. Try to always question your own point of view when you write. There is another guideline that says that Wikipedia is not a soapbox. Remember that you can always get your message through but give other views a chance and always cite and attribute criticism. In other words: If you want to say that Göran Persson is a liar, you can't do so and you shouldn't use words implying that he is. You can, however, find some somewhat significant commentator, such as another politician, a prominent journalist or a historian who says that Persson is a liar. But give Persson a fair chance: include any denial or any other people who have defended him. If Persson truly is a liar, you can be pretty sure that it will be conveyed by the narrative in any case (it is not clear in this case, even though I am more inclined to believe Scherman than Persson, but it is absolutely clear in the case of Freivalds). If you make sure to actually find references for everything you write, you will impose a certain discipline on yourself that forces you to double-check and also makes it easy for anyone else to check that you have given a fair picture. u p p l a n d 16:16, 26 March 2006 (UTC)
- Well, I am a critic of the current government, but I still can't help but to admire Göran Persson since he is a skillful politician in many ways. If one likes his politics, I think it is much easier to accept that he is a human being making mistakes just like the rest of us. If one doesn't, one will more likely focus on every little flaw in his person as well as in his politics. Most of us lie on a daily basis without anyone really bothering much about it since it is of no interest. That Persson makes a statement one day and another that can be seen as contradiciting his first the next, doesn't necessarily mean that he is lying. Even if many thinks that he probably did, it is still not illegal in any way for a politician to lie to the media or the public, and it wouldn't be the first time. That he may have threatened TV4 shouldn't be such a surprise either, he is actually leading a party that according to its own ideology seeks to limit the influence of the free market and privately controlled media. And looking at my articles, they are biast, of course they are. All wiki-articles are and always will be by focusing more or less on some events but not on others. I think the worst thing however is to believe that anything one reads is completely neutral, I am open with my criticism so that anyone who wants to know more about the one who wrote the article will find out where I stand in politics. Including references right away however, is something I have to be better at. (matal)
[edit] Copyrighted pictures
Hello fellow Swede. I'd strongly advice you not to upload copyrighted pictures, as most (if not all) of the pictures you've added to the Protests during the EU summit in Gothenburg 2001 article. I've removed them from the article until you can provide full details of the licensing they are under. – Elisson • Talk 11:55, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
- You know the saying, a picture says more than a thousand words =) Pictures makes an article so much more interesting. Anyhow, I guess you are right about removing some of them, others have been so widely spread however that I have to question if they actually can be considered copyrighted. How do one take legal measures about a picture that can be found and used by anyone on the Internet? Well, anyhow, I guess the article is just as good without as with pictures... (matal)
- Any picture that has not explicitly been placed in the public domain is still copyrighted, no matter how widely spread it is. Wikipedia is a free content encyclopedia, and as such we cannot use material that is under copyright, even if others aren't following those laws. Sad but true. But I'm sure there are loads of pictures from the protests taken by people that would gladly give permission to use them on Wikipedia. It's just a matter of finding them. Have fun and keep contributing! – Elisson • Talk 13:01, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
- Of course, let's see if anyone uploads any pictures from the demonstrations or the riots... (matal)
