[edit] Matt Mitchell

Matt Mitchell (born April 2, 1969) is an American author of horror and modern-day fantasy fiction.

[edit] Biography

Jon Matthew Mitchell, was born in Pell City, Alabama, and currently resides in Montevallo, the literary arts capitol of Alabama. Matt is the son of Sammy E. Mitchell, singer of the rock band The Barons, and Colleen Mitchell (maiden name Burcham). Sammy was paralysed during an operation to relieve neck pain in 1969, the year Matt was born, cutting short his career as a musician, and lived as a quadriplegic until he died in 2002. Matt's parents were divorced early in his life, but he visited his father frequently throughout childhood.

Following graduation from high school, Matt joined the Navy and sailed throughout the Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean Sea, and Persian Gulf, transiting the Suez Canal numerous times and visiting many ports of call throughout the world. Matt is currently employed professionally by SouthernLINC Wireless, a regional telecomm company operating in the southeast United States.

From an early age Matt enjoyed telling and writing stories, writing his first novella when he was only twelve. But Matt decided against living the starving artist's lifestyle and built a career for himself before attempting to get published, which he finally did in 2002, finally scoring a victory in 2007 with the acceptance of "A Man Sans Soul" to be published by the Mount Zion Speculative Fiction Review.

Currently Matt is dedicating more of his time to writing, despite being the father of two boys: Luke (age 3) and Liam (age 1), and is struggling to maintain his career, further his writing career and still be a husband to his wife Suzy, who was also his high-school sweetheart, and a father to his two boys.
