Greetings, my name is Matthew Vezina. For twenty years I have been a court reporter for the Attorney General working in Criminal Court, Youth Court, Family Court and at Corners Inquests. This position has provided me valuable insight into the changing nature and pressing concerns regarding law and order and public safety. During these years I have also been an representative for individuals and a social activist for all. You may remember me as the lead plaintiff against Loblaws in relation to the Hepatitis A incident. This law suit was ONLY launched after the poor treatment I and others receive at the hastily set up clinics AND after being denied the request for $20.00 gift certificates and an apology from Loblaws for the 500 people who signed my petition. As a result of my efforts 19,000 residents will receive a cheque for $150.00 and the two persons who tested positive will have separate arbitration. I have also assisted many individuals and local businesses with questions ranging from minor legal issues to acting as legal representative in various courts and tribunals. Most of this work I have done for no fee or on a COSTS ONLY basis. I have successfully dealt with companies as varied as Rogers Cable and Airtransat Holidays through consultation and when necessary litigation. Yes, I am a fighter and proud of it BUT that is not all that I offer to the residents of my ward. And I say residents and not voters because even non-voters, whether by age restriction or otherwise, require representation. Years ago I studied Broadcast Journalism resulting in my life long interest of media and current events. I understand the problems and issues that we are facing now and into the future. With the small window of time that I and we have LET’S NOT WASTE IT rehashing ongoing complaints but rather start to offer solutions. This city needs a vision for the future that is holistic in approach, inclusive of all citizens and responsible to our present and future fiscal realities. I offer myself as a non-partisan candidate carrying no baggage and owing no favors to any special interest group, business or organization.
