Scottish classical guitarist,Matthew McAllister was born in Falkirk and raised in the East Neuk of Fife. Matthew studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama, graduating with a BMus (Hons) in 2003. During his studies Matthew toured with the Scottish Ballet, performed at The 5th & 7th Simon Bolivar Guitar Festivals held at The Venezuelan Embassy in London, recorded for the BBC Artists Index and Spanish Television.

Since graduating in 2003, Matthew has enjoyed continued success, including headlining the Southwell International Festival alongside Aled Jones, appearances at major international guitar festivals - such as the Classical Guitar Camp (Malaysia), Ordu Guitar Festival (Turkey), Dundee Guitar Festival (Scotland) and Metu Guitar Festival (Turkey).

Matthew regularly performs and records in two duos: Maelasta (with violinist Feargus Hetherington) and the Agnew/McAllister flute and guitar duo.

Maelasta are Live Music Now! artists and in their first two years with the scheme have given over 100 concerts all over the UK and Denmark. Maelasta’s self titled debut album was released on the 6th of December 2005 and had its official UK commercial release in the world famous Foyles Bookstore, Charing Cross Road London. The album sells in Scotland, England, Wales, Ireland, Brazil, France, USA and Belgium and has been played in the USA on National Public Radio Oregon and WRUW Ohio. The album was selected for Music News Scotland’s top five albums of March 2006 and is receiving excellent reviews from the critical press.


In recent years the Agnew/McAllister duo have established themselves as a highly sought after and popular chamber ensemble. Highlights from their recent concert activity include launching the Southwell Reflections concert series in 2005 and returning to Southwell in 2006 to headline the sold out Celebration of the life of Mozart concert. In the autumn of 2005 the Irish Government’s Heritage Initiative invited the duo to tour Ireland’s medieval castles and historic houses giving evening recitals in stunning settings such as Roscrea Castle, Christ Church Cathedral Dublin and Rathfarnham castle. Many of the concerts in this tour completely sold out and the duo have returned each year since to embark on more extensive tours. The duo's debut album Recital affirms their growing reputation as one of Europe's permier exponents of the genre featuring a wide range of beautiful and virtuosic music from around the globe.
