Talk:Matthew Baillie Begbie

[edit] Oh, there's a lot of good stuff to go
Thx for adding that bio bit, whomever did that. There's heaps of cool stuff on this guy, so very different from the stuffy image popularized by the heritage cult; used to dress up in Tudor costume and roam Victoria's streets with his pugs all on silk leashes with silver collars. 6'6" and a great shot and horseman, "a most popular bachelor with the ladies of Victoria" who never married and who kept a close relationship with Arthur Bushby his clerk (private secretary as well as court clerk), who rode the assizes with him. The riding of the assizes himself is of unique scale relative to justices in the American West; the distances this man would ride to the tiniest communities would compare to a whole state's worth of counties stateside. I'll be back, and of course encyclopedia writing can't be quite so colourful as I tend towards, and only so many anecdotes can be placed here; fun stuff, though. A discussion of the hangings which gave his name (or not) might be most useful; I'll add a list of notable trials, and at some point the scandal involving property or whatever it was has to be accounted for.Skookum1 07:29, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
