[edit] Minor Issues

The references I used (provided by the Aizuwakamatsu City Library for a small fee) do not agree on some dates and numbers (mainly related to the year of births, deaths, and marriage).

I decided to use

  • 稲林敬一, (1991), 照姫様とその周辺. In 宮崎十三八 (Ed.), 物語 妻たちの会津戦争, pp. 9-30. 新人物往来社.

as the authorative reference. It is one of the more recent references, appeared to be detailed and well written, and agreed with most of the sources I was able to find online.

  • 小島一男, (1992), 会津女性人物事典, pp. 158-159. 歴史春秋社.

is more recent, but the content seems to rely on the "authorative reference" I used. I have to note that the two references disagree on the year Teru married. The first says it was 1849, the second says 1850 (just an example of the various disrespancies).

The years of the major events in this article may be off an year or so. The number of sons and daughters Katanaka had greatly differed between references, as well as the year Toshihime was born. I would appreciate it if future editors would be able to research and provide a credible source before correcting such numbers.
