Talk:Mathilde Kschessinska
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Regarding the status of claiming that Kschessinska was the 2nd Prima Assoluta which she WAS NOT (a title she attined through influence more than anything else - read Petipa's diaries) - Her distinction is being the first Russian Ballerina to attain such a title.
It is not known who was the first, second, third, etc. Ballerina to hold such a title, but there were Danseuses who held the title of Prima Ballerina Assoluta/Del Mondo in Italy, and France (such as Adèle Dumilatré).
Fanny Elssler was Prima Ballerina Assoluta to the Imperial Ballet during the late 1840s.
Anyway, to claim that Kschessinskaya was the second Prima Assoluta is not correct! (See Ballet of the Second Empire by Ivor Guest if you need referances) Mrlopez2681 16:01, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Regarding Legnani's Fouettes
Pierina Legnani first performed her infamous 32 fouettes entournant in 1893, in Cinderella (Zolushka), choreographed by Lev Ivanov and Enrico Cecchetti, supervised by Petipa, to the music of Baron Boris Fitinghof-Schell (see The Life and Ballets of Lev Ivanov by Roland John Wiley if you need referance). [edit] Better photo?
There are MANY better photos of Kschessinska than the one offered here (or the one in the Ballerina gallery), many of which I have in my own collection. Mrlopez2681 16:08, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
