I haven't seen cars, and I'm sure it's a great movie, but 'mater' also is a formal term for mother. I think there should be a disambiguation page, although I don't know how to create.Jahenderson 21:57, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

Mater is also a term meaning Tomato (his actual name is Tow Mater, or so I've heard). GangstaEB EA (comments welcome!) 00:25, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

Jahenderson, you should see Cars. I first thought it was lame when I saw the trailer, but it's great! ANNAfoxlover 21:34, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Documentation on the original 1958 International Harvester truck

Rhindle the Red: Please see the documentation provided on the museum piece that was indeed the actual vehicle used by the producers & animators. It is a 1958 International Harvester (IHC) Pickup truck, converted into a tow truck; and NOT "apparently based on a 1951 International Harvester (IHC) Pickup truck" or on a 1955 Chevy 3800 pickup truck, either. I have documented the original physical vehicle used as the model for Mater: Please assure that other edits include the photo in any documentation refuting this. No, the actual vehicle that inspired the producers & animaters is a 1951 IHC pickup, as specified in Route 66 Online News (http://www.route66tvonline.homestead.com/GALENApage.html) and other sites, and looks nothing like Mater except both are rusty.

[edit] Merge

No merge necessary. Mater is a major character from a significant film and should have his own entry.Rhindle The Red 15:32, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] New Pic?

Since we're now adjusting all the pictures to a particular size, Mater's picture seems rather small. Could we get a picture of him on his own? The same can be said for Fillmore and Ramone, among others. RMS Oceanic 22:46, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

I will try to find better pictures, since this is exactly what I want as well. Have you seen Luigi's picture? You can barely see him! Anyway, I'll try to get everyone a better picture by Valentine's Day 2007, if no one else wants to do this for me. ANNAfoxlover 21:33, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
It's me again, ANNAfoxlover, and I've come up with some pretty good pictures for the cars. How do you like them? ANNAfoxlover 23:39, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Mate

In the Spanish version (to Europe), Mater is named MATE, like Tomate (tomatoe in english, tomate in spanish) and also in Catalan version: the name is MATA, from Tomata (tomatoe). His name is'nt Molcador. Annabet —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 62.82.148.77 (talk) 23:19, 16 January 2007 (UTC).

Please, whoever you are. If you cannot back up your statements that you are continually re-adding to this article, please stop. If anyone else can back up the things he/she has been adding, please do so. I'm getting tired of this. Rhindle The Red 14:14, 23 January 2007 (UTC) You're the one who deleted my statement about Mater liking his rusty paint job! This has been verified as true by Disney staff!!!

WHY IN THE WORLD ARE YOU GOING TO STUPID DISNEY FOR INFORMATION ON A Pixar FILM???????????? PIXAR WAS THE ONE THAT MADE THE STORY, ANIMATION, AND EVERYTHING ELSE!!! Disney had nothing to do with any Pixar films except for marketing! DISNEY IS STUUUUPID!!!! Thanks for listening. ANNAfoxlover 23:34, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
I agree with what Anna said, but not as vehemently as that. (Disney is not Pixar.) dogman15 03:35, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Opposite lock steering

Maybe is worth to mention that Mater is one of the few cars that know how to perform an opposite lock steering (as seen on Mater and the Ghostlight), along with McQueen and Doc Hudson. --Manuel Cuevas 17:01, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
