Matthew Rolston (born 1961) is an acclaimed American photographer and music video director, known for videos in Pop and R&B genres.

Matthew Rolston was born and raised in Los Angeles. He developed his talents as a photographer at the San Francisco Art Institute and the Art Center College of Design, in Pasadena.

Over the years, Rolston’s still photography work for Harper's Bazaar, Andy Warhol’s Interview Magazine and Rolling Stone (among many others) has highlighted his visual panache and control of detail.

Rolston’s photographs have been exhibited at prestigious galleries. Locations include locations across the United States, Europe, Japan, and at museums, including The Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City and the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C. In addition, a collection of his photographs, “Big Pictures”, was published in 1991 by Bullfinch Press.

Soon, Rolston expanded his savvy for classic composition and style by working as a director of music videos for artists including En Vogue, TLC, Mary J. Blige, Madonna, Christina Aguilera, Janet Jackson, Lenny Kravitz, Poe, Dido, Garbage, Sugababes, Jody Watley, Hilary Duff and Beyoncé Knowles. He has also directed acclaimed commercials for the likes of GAP, Ralph Lauren, Neutrogena, L'Oréal, Clairol, Pantene, Burberry, Maybelline, Levi's, Bacardi, Elizabeth Arden, General Motors, Max Factor, Old Navy and Revlon.

His work remains infused by a coterie of influences: famed 1930’s glamour photographer George Hurrell, early Hollywood director Josef von Sternberg, and classic cinema costume designers Adrian and Travis Banton, all of whom, to quote Rolston, “invented Hollywood style”. Currently signed to Radical Media worldwide for music videos, commercials, new media, and branded entertanment. His photography reps include Stockland Martel and Jim Johnson / Pretty Pictures Representation.

Matthew Rolston recently photographed legendary superstar Michael Jackson at the Brooklyn Museum in New York for the magazine Ebony, December 2007 issue. Rolston also has worked with Joanne Gair and appears in her second book.
