Matthew Jarvis (born May 22, 1986 in Middlesbrough) is an English professional footballer, who currently plays for Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Championship. He is a predominantly a left winger, but can also play on the right wing (he is right footed) and up-front.

[edit] Career

Jarvis started his career as a youth team player at Millwall, before being released. He made his league début for Gillingham on 4 November 2003, in a 1-3 defeat to Sunderland and signed professional forms during the 2004/05 season, in which the club were relegated to the third tier.

His goal against Huddersfield Town won the Kent club's goal of the season award for the 2005/06 season, and he was the club's second highest scorer of that season with 7 goals. In the 2006/07 season, he was named in the PFA League One Team of the Year.[1]

Jarvis' contract with the Gills ended after the 2006-07 season and he signed a 2 year deal with second tier Wolverhampton Wanderers on 20 June 2007, with Wolves having the option to extend his stay by another year, after the clubs agreed an undisclosed compensation fee (as he was under 24).[2] He suffered a hip injury during pre-season though which delayed his introduction into the first team until late October. After regaining full fitness, he has become a first choice player at Molineux.
