Matthew Arnold School (Staines)

The Matthew Arnold School is a British co-educational secondary school in Staines, a suburb of London, taking pupils from the age of 11 ("Year 7") to 16 ("Year 11"). The school is a specialist Business and Enterprise College.

It is now perhaps best known as the alma mater of the fictional character Ali G, who calls it "Da Matthew Arnold Skool" [1] although he never actually attended.

Matthew Arnold is on the outskirts of Staines, with easy transport links via buses and trains. Matthew Arnold takes in many pupils from a variety of schools, including Bucklands School, Laleham Church of England School, Kingscroft School, Town Farm Primary School, Our Lady of Rosary, Stanwell Fields, Clarendon, Ashford Park, and many more.

At Matthew Arnold, the learning environment is well suited for children of all abilities, equipped with a hard-working Learning Support Department, a Business and Enterprise Suite, new Maths, Business Studies and ICT Rooms, a library and a Business Resource Centre, and an up-to-date £0.5 million fitness centre, which both teachers and students can use. They are rivals with The Magna Carta School in Egham.

As of January 2008, they are not most improved school in England.^[1]
