Matthew Amroliwala

Matthew Amroliwala is a BBC newsreader who presents on BBC News, the corporation's 24 hour rolling news channel, and on BBC One at the weekends. He also appears in the revamped Crimewatch programme on BBC One, with Kirsty Young. With his youthful, striking appearance and precise delivery, he is regarded as the silver fox of the BBC news team.

He was born Mehrwan F. Amroliwalla in Leeds in 1962. [1] [2] The son of a Royal Air Force officer, he was educated at The King's School, Ely and then St Chad's College, Durham University. He graduated in 1984 having read Law and Politics.

He was married in London, in June 1999, [1] [2] and has four children: Milo, Louis, Mary and Mabel.

After a career as a chartered accountant he joined the BBC and in 1990 became a BBC network television correspondent. In 1997 he joined BBC News as a presenter of the channel's evening programmes, and from the beginning of 2001 he has presented the late afternoon news programme, first with Jane Hill and then with Maxine Mawhinney. In April 2006 he was reunited with Hill, and they now present together from 11am-2pm on weekdays.

He has covered many major news stories including reporting extensively from Northern Ireland. He has also reported from Bosnia on the fall of Srebrenica and travelled throughout the Balkans during that conflict.

Since January 2008, he has co-presented the programme Crimewatch with Kirsty Young, specializing in the solved cases.
