Matt Wertz is a singer/songwriter. Originally raised in Liberty, MO, he now calls Nashville, TN home. It was while Wertz was attending the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign as an industrial design major that he developed his passion for singing and songwriting. Wertz gained a considerable fan base by performing at Young Life camps, after releasing "Somedays", his first album, produced by Steve Wilson. His next two studio albums, and one EP, have all been produced by himself and Ed Cash with an exception on the EP where his best friend Dave Barnes helped produce the album. Aside from touring with such acts as Jason Mraz, Jamie Cullum, Gavin Degraw, Matt Nathanson and Jars of Clay, he has headlined several tours nationally in the early to mid-2000s.
Matt's songs have been featured on shows like "Brothers and Sisters", "Kyle XY" and "Wildfire." He can also be heard in the movies "Employee of the Month" and "My Super Ex-Girlfriend."
On September 19, 2006, Matt released his third studio album, Everything In Between. On March 14th, 2007, Matt became the first artist featured on the widely recognized Acoustic Lounge on KSFS podcast. In late 2007, Wertz went back on the road with fellow singer-songwriter and friend Dave Barnes. Their aptly named tour, Two Birds/One Stone, toured around the country, ending up in their hometown of Nashville, TN.
In December of 2007, Matt signed a record deal with Universal Republic Records. Matt first announced this news to the media on The Mark Zito Show, heard on WJPZ-FM in Syracuse, NY. Matt plans to release a new record in May of 2008 called "Under Summer Sun." The record will be comprised of eight (remixed) songs from his previous albums with four new songs added to the mix.
