From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Matt Smith (born 1967, Liverpool) is a British broadcaster, and currently one of ITV Sport's main presenters. He also presents shows on BBC Radio Five Live
He presents The Championship highlights programme every Sunday on ITV1, as well as hosting UEFA Cup and UEFA Champions League games and highlights. He can also be heard presenting Weekend Breakfast with Rachel Burden, and occasionally covering on the Drive 4pm-7pm weekday show, both on Radio Five Live. He has also occasionally presented ITV Granada's weekly football show Soccer Night.
Matt started his career at the BBC, working initially on Midlands Today, before moving onto Football Fever, World Snooker and international events including the Sydney Olympics and Euro 2000, before moving in the summer of 2001.
During the 2002 World Cup in Korea/Japan Matt hosted a panel-based show featuring debate and World Cup highlights every evening during the tournament.
At Euro 2004, Matt was the senior reporter based with the England team.
Matt presented BBC Radio Four's only children's programme, 'Go For It'. He was amusingly lampooned on the radio comedy impressions programme Dead Ringers, and given the simply catchphrase 'Ace' (a lot funnier when listened to than when written down!).
Matt has also hosted On The Ball and Speed Sunday and has reported at ITV's boxing coverage.
In the space of a year, he has gone from ITV's fourth choice presenter, to their second choice due to Gabby Logan and Jim Rosenthal both leaving the network.
