Born Matthew Lewis Pyken in Brooklyn, New York, to Eugene Pyken, a fundraiser, and Rhoda Singer Pyken, a teacher. He is the oldest of three children. He has two sisters. At age nine his family moved to Van Nuys, California. He would attend Claremont McKenna College, where he graduated with degrees in Literature and Political Science. [1]

He is best known for being a writer and producer. He has written for many television shows that include: The Invisible Man, D.C., Queer as Folk , John Doe and more recently Las Vegas. He has produced episodes for John Doe, Queer as Folk and Las Vegas.[2].
