[edit] Biography
Peckham attended Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, where he received an M.A. in English with an emphasis on creative fiction.[1] Initially employed as a store manager for Software Etc., he left retail to pursue a career as a systems engineer with Union Pacific Railroad before transitioning to writing full time.
[edit] Journalism
Peckham is known for his occasionally polemical reviews, in particular a review of Atari's Neverwinter Nights 2, which was controversially removed shortly after publication by games site 1UP.[2] His second extended review of the game was later published by SCI FI.[3] He is also a notable critic of so-called "meta" game score sites like Metacritic and Gamerankings for what he describes as "lumping to one,"[4] i.e. unscientifically averaging scores rendered from disparate scales.
Peckham's 2004 SF Site article on Stephen King's Dark Tower series[5] was cited by Best American Fantasy series[6] editor Matthew Cheney as "one of the best pieces of criticism I've read in quite some time."[7]
Peckham is currently the editor of PC World's Game On daily games column, launched in April 2007.[8]
