Matt Carkner

Matt Carkner (born November 3, 1980 in Winchester, Ontario) is a Canadian ice-hockey defenceman with the Ottawa Senators of the NHL.

He was originally drafted by the Montreal Canadiens #58 overall in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, but never played for them. He signed with the San Jose Sharks in 2001 and played for five seasons with their AHL affiliate Cleveland Barons, setting new career highs in goals (10), assists (21) and points (31) in the 2005–06 season. That season he also played his only NHL game with the Sharks, recording one assist and two penalty minutes.

On July 23, 2006 he signed a contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins and played the entire season with their AHL affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. In 75 games with the Penguins, he scored six goals and added 24 assist for 30 points while recording 167 penalty minutes.

On July 3, 2007 he signed a contract with the Ottawa Senators.
