Matt Abts (born September 30, 1953) is an American drummer best known as a member of the band Gov't Mule.

Abts started playing music in high school in Panama before relocating to Virginia where he spent the next eight years playing music regionally in many bands. He then moved to Florida, getting a break playing with Dickey Betts and Chuck Leavell in 1984. Abts recorded Pattern Disruptive with the Dickey Betts Band in 1988 which also included future Gov't Mule member, Warren Haynes.

Abts joined Allman Brother's musicians Warren Haynes and Allen Woody to form Gov't Mule in 1994. Abts also played in the Pink Floyd tribute band Blue Floyd which is know for its high energy bluesy versions of Pink Floyd songs.
