Matsuda, Kanagawa

Matsuda (松田町; -machi) is a town located in Ashigarakami District, Kanagawa, Japan. As of 2008, the town has an estimated population of 11,959 and a density of 317 persons per km2. The total land area of the town is 37.75 km2. Since the town lies on an active fault, the local government has been preparing for a possible magnitude-8 earthquake in the upcoming century.
Some of the cultural attractions include camping, paragliding, Sakawagawa (Sakawa River) Fishing, Tanzawa Mountain Range Hiking, and Blueberry & Tangerine Picking and Sweet Potato Digging (similar to American Apple picking). Other attractions include the local matsuri festivals, the Matsudayama Herb Garden, Children's Museum, Nature Hall, & Ridable Miniature Railway, the Yadoriki Petting Zoo & Dog Park, Yadoriki Fishing Area, 2 golf courses, and the Matsuda Health & Welfare Center Onsen.
Shin-Matsuda Station is 9 minutes from Odawara Station, 26 minutes from Hakone-Yumoto Station, and 68 minutes from Shinjuku Station (using the Romancecar). Matsuda Station is 28 minutes from Gotemba Station. On the Tomei Expressway, Matsuda is 23 km from Gotemba and 57.9 km from the Tokyo IC. The Hakone Sightseeing Area, Dynacity and the Odawara Shopping District, Odawara Castle, downtown Tokyo, Odaiba, Shinjuku, Gotemba Premium Outlets, the Asahi Brewery in Kanagawa, and beach resorts are all easily accessible from Matsuda-machi by car, local trains, or shinkansen.
