[edit] Center Based Gifted Program

In Chesterfield County Public Schools, an organization known as Center Based Gifted is present. They are in charge of all students with "gifted education" in the county. A Center Based Gifted Middle School (often shortened to CBG Middle School), is a "school within a school" as their are two distinct student bodies. One body is the CBG and the other is regular. CBG students at Matoaca Middle School take separate classes from regular students (excluding electives).

[edit] East Campus

At Matoaca Middle School, the CBG students attend a separate building from the majority of other students. They attend the "East Campus" which is an old high school. Since it is an old high school, Matoaca Middle School East Campus has advanced equipment such as: Larger Auditorium Science Labs with higher levels of equipment (ex. gas outlets) Larger Wood Shop area (which is large enough to include the county wood shop department in the building)

CBG students are also given the option to take Foreign language courses starting from 6th grade (as opposed to 8th grade in the county's regular school students). In addition, the East Campus runs on a Block scheduling system.

[edit] Regular Middle School

Aside from CBG students the regular students who attend Matoaca Middle School attend both campuses instead of one, like CBG students.

[edit] West Campus

A majority of the regular students attend this campus. The campus is for 6th and 7th grade regular Matoaca Middle students. The building is considerably newer compared to the East Campus and has a majority of the student body as CBG is far outnumbered by regular students.

[edit] East Campus

Here, 8th graders of the regular school attend along with the CBG students. 8th graders are allowed to take a Foreign Language (as opposed to CBG students who can take it in 6th grade) [4]

[edit] Haunted Auditorium

At the old High School (Current East Campus), a persistent rumor of a ghost in the auditorium goes on. [5] The story goes that, when the building was a High School, a girl who attended the High School was involved in the school's play. However, on the night of the performance, she died in a car crash. The rumor has it that the auditorium has been haunted with her spirit.

People who visit the are during the night frequently report the cutting off of the lights, drop in temperature, and banging of the walls from an unknown force. [6] However, no proof of a ghost (besides reports from a small group of people) has ever been verified.
