Matlan Marjan

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Matlan Marjan was a professional football player from the state of Sabah, Malaysia. He is the only Malaysian professional player whom managed to score 2 goals against a full England team while playing for Malaysia on the 12 June, 1991.[1]

Matlan is a Bajau Samah from Kota Belud, Sabah. In 1995, Matlan along with five other Sabah FA players were arrested on suspicion of match-fixing. Although the charges against the six were dropped[2] he was severely punished and thus ending his football career. He was banished to another district.[3] He was punished under the Internal Security Act (which allows indefinite detention without any trial, and in this case despite being proven innocent, and even on non-security related issue).
