Matina Canton

Matina is the name of the fifth canton in the province of Limón in Costa Rica. The canton covers an area of 576.48 km²[1], and has a population of 37,549[2]. Its capital city is also called Matina.

The canton includes the Caribbean coast between the mouths of the Río Pacuare to the north and the Río Toro to the south. It lies between the Río Madre de Dios on the northwest side and the Río Toro on the east, and ranges as far south at the Río Boyei in the Cordillera de Talamanca.

The canton of Matina is subdivided into 3 distritos (districts).

  1. Matina
  2. Batán
  3. Carrandi
