Matilde Montoya (1859-1939) was the first female physician in Mexico.
She was born in Mexico City in 1859, and despite the sexism of the time was determined to obtain her medical training due to sexism. She eventually requested and received help from President Diaz to gain entry into medical school. President Diaz and his wife attended her graduation examination to ensure fairness and Matilde Montoya received her M.D. degree on August 24, 1887.
