Mathew William Hunter Inness was born on 13 January 1978 in East Melbourne, Victoria (Australia), Australia. He has played for many teams, these include Victoria, Western Australia and Northamptonshire. He made his first-class debut for the Victoria in the 1997-98 season, he earned the nickname "Min".

Inness is a right-handed batsmen and a left-arm fast medium bowler who can move the ball both ways in the air and can get plenty of cut off the seam.

Inness has had a series of massive setbacks along the way, always keeping him on the fringe of his state teams. In the 2003-04 season he went down with a bout of Glandular Fever putting him out of team for the rest of the season.

Inness came over to Western Australia to try and resurrect his career with a stint with the Western Warriors and played in three ING Cup Matches and played five Pura Cup matches.
