Materialise NV is a leading software prodider for handling triangulated rapid prototyping models and running rapid prototyping machines, such as stereolithography (STL) machines and selective laser sintering (SLM) machines.

In 2006 Materialise began defending their patent for scanning any part of human anatomy and reconstructing it using rapid prototyping techniques with a notch for the purposes of easy locationing[5] against Nobel Biocare for their dental implant technology.[6]
