Matelica is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Macerata in the Italian region Marche, located about 60 km southwest of Ancona and about 35 km west of Macerata. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 10,300 and an area of 81.0 km².[1]

The municipality of Matelica contains the frazioni (subdivisions, mainly villages and hamlets) Balzani, Braccano, Castiglione, Cavalieri, Colferraio, Collepere, Colli, Mistriano, Pezze, Piane, Poggeto, San Nicola, Terricoli, Valbona, and Vinano.

Matelica borders the following municipalities: Apiro, Castelraimondo, Cerreto d'Esi, Esanatoglia, Fabriano, Fiuminata, Gagliole, Poggio San Vicino, San Severino Marche.
