Mat Gardner (b. August 24 1985) is a rugby league player, who currently plays for the Salford City Reds. He is the younger brother of St Helens winger Ade Gardner
Gardner made his Super League debut in a match against Wakefield Trinity Wildcats on 4 March 2006 for Huddersfield. He enjoyed a solid debut season with the Huddersfield Giants in 2006, which included a memorable hat-trick against the Les Catalans and also played several games, which saw him line-up against his brother Ade.
He performed better than most people expected in the 2006 season and many people will be hoping he pushes hard for a place in the Huddersfield Giants line-up in 2007.
He played in Huddersfield's first seven games and scored 2 tries, although a long run in the reserves followed before he was recalled for the game against Harlequins RL.
with the Giants signing David Hodgson from Salford and Rod Jensen being established on the other wing Matt Gardner was surplus to requirements at Huddersfield and signed for the Salford City Reds for the 2008 season.
