Re: Checkuser

Hm. The check was responded to by Mackensen (one of the CUs), and it sounded to me like he was saying the other accounts came from a school he didn't feel entirely comfortable blocking (probably too much collateral damage?). But I could be misreading that. Either way, I don't think I've noticed too many problems, recently, so maaaaybe we're in the clear. – Luna Santin (talk) 18:44, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

"-tachi"

I didn't miss the Seiya one; I just didn't like the "and company" option. For some of the titles, one really needs to have seen the episode to get the nuance of the title, and I haven't seen that one. I would guess it's a Three Lights background story, and I would change it accordingly, if I knoew the plot contents. MSJapan 19:05, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

Inform GA

The copyrighted images were used fairly, in my opinion. I suggest you read the tag on the image's page, which states that in the absence of a free alternative, these images are allowed to be used. Furthermore, I suggest you don't nominate the article if you believe that these "instant fail" criteria have been breached by the article. Thanks. ~ G1ggy! Reply 06:51, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Images that do not include both a fair use tag and a detailed fair use rationale will be deleted! (from here)
I'd have thought that if it did indeed break the fair use policy, it would be deleted, as per the policy. Thus, I had no reason to oppose it, on the basis that all of the article's other editors didn't oppose it.
I apologise for my hostility, I will try to be more co-operative in the future. ~ G1ggy! Reply 07:02, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
As far as I can see, there IS a fair use tag on the image. It is tagged with Template:Non-free software screenshot, which is listed here. ~ G1ggy! Reply 07:18, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
Everything mentioned by those dot points is found in the banner anyway. Oh, and sorry for the late reply, I was on holiday. ~ G1ggy! Reply 08:31, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
So do you want to take the GA back? ~ G1ggy! Reply 00:03, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Duke53

While I agree that this edit doesn't represent the most temperate response, the editor in question (41.240.70.151 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · block user · block log)) was edit warring to insert a racist slur into a couple of different articles – using a variety of deceptive edit summaries – more than thirty times.

I can understand that Duke53 may well have been irked by this behaviour, and been goaded to impoliteness by the sheer gall of the troll who left an NPA warning on his page. (The troll also left 3RR warnings for another editor who reverted the vandalism.)

The IP address in question has made no useful contributions to the encyclopedia, and has in fact been entirely a nuisance. While Duke's response was a violation of WP:NPA, I just can't bring myself to care. He was being taunted by a troll and vandal, and the only downside of Duke's comments is that the troll might enjoy that he's gotten a rise out of Duke. TenOfAllTrades(talk) 02:28, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

  3. Remember to assume good faith and not bite. Remember that when you are applying these principles most diligently, you are probably dealing with a troll.

  5. Remember when you make these errors, someone will be more than happy to point them out to you in dazzling clarity and descriptive terminology.

Makoto's skirt

I didn't realise it would be so hard to cite until I'd already put it in... whoops. Thus far I've come up with the "sukeban" subculture, which were the delinquent girls of the 1950's thru to about the 1970's. This is based on a google image search which shows the Sukeban Deka girls in long skirts sometimes. I've yet to find anything free-to-view which explicitly says "Sukeban typically wore long skirts and pump shoes", but I've come up with some ideas - this book has a description of sukeban, translating the text in the original proposal may prove useful and this book has a definition of sukeban which may or may not include a description. I think Womansword is available at my uni, so I'll try to borrow it and see.-Malkinann 02:05, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

Does the citation look alright? The book's got to go back to the library in about two weeks, so we need to get that right. Is the wording that's with the reference alright? The book only says stuff about sukeban characters being popular in boys' comics of the 1980s, but not girls', so do we have to modify the phrasing that we've got? Do we need to ask Wikimoon about whether Makoto's hair is natural or not, (permed hair being a trait of the sukeban) or is that getting too detailed? -Malkinann 08:26, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I joined the land of the slightly-less-anonymous.  :) About the fair use images, I don't feel comfortable having to declare something under U.S. law, so I can't really help out with that. I have put most of the images on the watchlist, though, so we'll at least know when they get tagged. -Malkinann 00:50, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Not to point out the obvious, but....

You reverted my undo of the Ami-chan title kanji on List of Sailor Moon Episodes based on how it's written in the manga, which seems a bit weird - there's a readability issue on TV that doesn't occur in the printed page. I'm more concerned with how it's written on the LD or video box, because I'm pretty sure it was different than in the manga. MSJapan 02:18, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Fair enough, though on further perusal, the summary needs a lot of grammatical work. I'll need to figure out how the plot goes first. MSJapan 02:30, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Response.

Allrighty, so since the only person who disagrees with this has stopped making arguments in favor of insulting people whose tone he disapproves of, I think we're probably done

Take your own advice - if I am not able to point out that someone is making arguments that are not based on any truth, then you should not be able to declare a person's statements as "insulting people instead of making arguments". And simple mistake - ahem, it wasn't a simple mistake - it was an assumption. Someone literally making a baseless guess which is no more true or likely to be true than his stance being "to change the Wiki to be JP-oriented" shouldn't be followed with "oh, he just made a simple mistake" - it should be "When you assume, you make an ass of you and me." Would you be happier if I had said the exact same thing, but with a more polite touch? What I said was actually consistent with reality - unlike that I called Europeans ignorant, or that I have an NA bias, because NA is the only English-speaking continent in the world. - A Link to the Past (talk) 04:01, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

Unnamed attack - Sailor Jupiter used another attack which was not

Unnamed attack - Sailor Jupiter used another attack which was not

Chibiusa

I believe how it works out is something like this: Usagi is 22, she has Chibiusa then, and then Chibiusa is born in the 9 months. And then the Silver Milennium is approximately 1000 years in the future, i.e. it's rounded. I would have to check with Lunar Archivist if you want chronological dates, but in general, we round as well when we talk about dates, for example Jesus was born 3 B.C. that's about 200 years ago. We are in the year 2000... last millennia was the 1900's and so on... Keep in mind the ages were from the manga... but you already know that...--Hitsuji Kinno 15:41, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

Actually it's described something like this. We are in the 20th century (late) when Chibiusa arrives. The 30th century (doing math) would be early in the 30th to get Chibiusa... i.e. people don't do the math right when they calculate the 30th century. I can give you his wording, but basic math is off.... which leads to the misconception. As for the jump... when Usagi jumped into the Cauldron, she returned to her time/space (as Chibiusa stated she was returning to hers), lived for 8 years, then had Chibiusa, established the kingdom (i.e. solidified it... but built it *before* her wedding), then lived for about 900 years before the war... So Chibiusa comes from about 908-909 years in the future. (depending on how you count the age difference between what her father stated and what she herself stated, as saying she was 902 years old, when she should be 901.)--Hitsuji Kinno 05:14, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
Because Usagi and Mamoru are in bed before Usagi insists that Mamoru says it again. Mamoru says, "Marry Me, Usako." They are naked... in the background is Crystal Tokyo. At the wedding Usagi says, "I feel a new star being born." i.e. Chibiusa... some even speculate she's carrying more than her usual weight. (Papirini) So the wedding was before the 9 month margin... --Hitsuji Kinno 05:25, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
The manga page before Usagi asks him to say it again (Volume 18, Act 52) has Crystal Tokyo (Spires and the usual stock she used for previous pages, no screentone, fading into the next panel.) at the top of the page, so we know it's built, however the empire itself doesn't seem established since he calls her "Usako" rather than "Serenity."--Hitsuji Kinno 15:46, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

So it's a variant of the GameFAQS autocensor problem.

You'd be having the thing finding censor bypasses that aren't actually there. It'd be almost more trouble than it's worth, since you'd have to fix it every time it finds a false positive. HalfShadow 19:32, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

Reversion

In responce to your comments, whether or not an editor's comment, observation, joke, or rant is productive to the encyclopedia, talk pages are for talking. If we deny people the right to be "heard", even if what they say is nonsense, we deny them the opportunity to learn to be more productive editors. I personally try not to remove anything from talk pages on articles. My only exceptions have been things that are, IMO, clearly obscene and truly viscious personal attacks. I, of course, expect that user talk pages are controlled by users themselves, but I try and follow those same guidelines on my own page. Wikipedia may not have unlimited "space" - but a cheerful comment does not hurt any talk page. On a personal note, one of my strongest personal convictions is that censorship, in any form, limits personal freedom and opportunity. I hope that clarifies my revert. Best wishes. WBardwin 01:26, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

I see nothing disparaging about "...restore "chat" - let's not censor, talk pages are for talking." Why do you think such a request disparages you? That wasn't my intent. Best.......WBardwin 03:47, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi Rachel SchmuckyTheCat has kept reinstating the Db tag. What can we do about it? Qaka 20:07, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Hello again. I have reported him to 3RR for blanking the page and re-adding the speedy template to the page. Qaka 21:09, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

I don't know. But the map itself is annodated with English, therefore I don't think it will be used by other languages of Wikipedia unless a translation of the map in a certain language isn't yet ready. Qaka 21:23, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Review of deleted revisions

I noticed on User talk:^demon that you restored some apparently accidentally deleted images. Those names seem suspiciously like ones I know I have seen in Category:Rescaled fairuse images more than 7 days old, which I created a few days ago to help clear the backlog at Category:Rescaled fairuse images. Since User:^demon seems to be offline at the moment, would you mind going through his CSD I5 deletions for the last couple of days. I recognize several filenames in the list, and I see some people have started to upload the original high-res version again (which really defeats the purpose of rescaling for fair use). --Pekaje 22:23, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi! Yeah, I noticed you having the same problem, too. To be honest, I'm not actually comfortable digging through and reverting a bunch of ^demon's actions before he logs on, lest I be seen as wheel warring; technically, I probably should have held off on reuploading those other images, but I forgot about the rule until I was done. I'm confident that this has been a mistake, though, and have offered ^demon my help for when he logs on and sees what's happening. Hopefully we can get this all sorted out ASAP. --Masamage 22:33, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
Well, it's just that people are starting to notice, and to be honest one never knows when an editor or admin will be back to check messages (though I doubt it will be too long). In this case, I'd say abandon the rules and do what's best for the encyclopedia. If the deleted image description page was using the {{non-free reduced}} template, then it's a fair bet that it was a mistake to delete it. Your choice, of course. If the problem is what I think it is, then it certainly won't be fun to undo the work of ImageRemovalBot ... :-/ --Pekaje 22:44, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

PGSM

I have some questions about PGSM.

1.If the PGSM series would have ever been made into the Black Moon Arc, how would Usagi get her Crystal Brooch since she lost her powers? Would Queen Serenity help her? And would the rest of the senshi get their Star Powers from Queen Serenity as well?

2. Do you think the PGSM attacks was more powerful than their star power or crystal power attacks in the anime since they have the power to kill youma?

3. Which one of Mercury's Live Action Attacks was most like Neptune's Deep Submerge?

4. Do you think they will ever make a second season of PGSM?

5. Was Princess Kakyuu's hairsytle based on Princess Leia from Star Wars?

Quebec

Hi, I'm PGSYLV, and Tomj told you Quebec wasn'y a nation. Actually, Charles Taylor and Gérard Bouchard are my sources and it is enough because both of them are well-known. Both have demonstrated that Quebec is a nation (with political science, philosophy and history). It's a general consensus in Quebec that Quebec is a Nation. Thank You. Cerastes cerastes

Hi Masamage! I'm sorry, but I undid your changes to the Cerastes cerastes article. I know the formatting is a little weird, but it's intentional; it's something that I developed for this entire series (Viperidae) as a mechanism to deal with A.) the many common names that exist for many species, and B.) the fact that some people just can't seem to spot the common names quickly enough when they're part of the introduction. In my view, this format is also a good way to clear the introduction of a lot of pointless babble. Furthermore, not mentioning the common names in the text is a good way to prevent repetition, as well as yet more petty squabbles regarding exactly which common names should be used over and over again in the text. For examples of what I hope the article will eventually look like, see Vipera berus or Crotalus adamanteus. There are many, many more, so I'd be grateful if you could humor me and let things stand as they are. Cheers! --Jwinius 20:47, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi, and thanks for the heads-up. Unfortunately, this method of disambiguation violates WP:LEAD, which calls for the article title to be in the first sentence in the article. The much more commonly-accepted style is to list the other names in the first paragraph, perhaps in bold to catch the reader's eye. You could also put the most common alternate name immediately, ie "Cerastes cerastes (commonly known as "sidewinder")". Making a new paragraph at the top throws off the recommended style guidelines for articles and is jarring. --Masamage 20:53, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
As stated before, I'm well aware that the formatting is different, but I meant it to be more of a solution to a problem than a provocation. I started out with the usual introductory style, but so many snake species have so many different common names, that following the recommended style for the lead section often resulted in a confusing mess of common names and bold type face. E.g., Agkistrodon piscivorus has over 30 common names. I also wanted a method that avoided elevating one common name over any others as much as possible, as that tends to invite pointless debates about which name is more important. So far, this format has been very successful; in over a year I've had only one argument with someone about which common name should be the first in the list for a particular species. Also, "jarring" is exactly how somebody once described these articles back when they were still WP:LEAD-compliant. Anyway, three viper articles have been given GA status despite being different, so it can't be all that bad. --Jwinius 23:20, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
BTW, I've got your talk page on my watch list, so you can answer here. --Jwinius 23:22, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
Well, I still disagree with it as a stylistic choice, but it sounds like you know what you're doing. As long as you know what the guidelines are and still think this is for the best, I'm really not disturbed enough to fight it out. You're definitely right that getting GA-status is a sign that it's probably okay for now; I'm unsure that you'll be able to achieve FA-status without finding some way to satisfy the guidelines, but I guess you can deal with that when it comes around. --Masamage 23:29, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
It's likely that the scientific name titles and lead section style would be problematic in an FA review, but then again; nothing was said about it during the GA reviews of the other articles. Regardless, I suppose I won't be happy with the situation until this style gets official approval. I can only imagine that won't be easy, but it may help if I get some more GAs and talk with some other people first. Thanks for your understanding. --Jwinius 00:26, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

Image in Sailor Moon English Adaptations

Hey, I have uploaded a new composite photo of the two deleted scenes in the English adaptaion of Sailor Moon Episode 45/46. It's the one where Venus dies and Mamoru strangles Sailor Moon. This one here. Just to notify you, I did it for better a quality look. Although something seems wrong at my computer in the English adaptations page(looks like a Venus streched picture for me)=.=.I could do the same for the Usagi/Serena in the bathub, if you liked.--Hanaichi 05:29, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

Okay finish doing the images, changed the articles too.=)I figured out that the images were just slow at processing so thats why the old image of Venus looked streched in my computer. If you need any more help, just contact me later on.--Hanaichi 06:23, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

Generic Infobox

It's basically part of a general clean up of anime infoboxes; as Farix points out, they number around 35 -- and that number is expected to climb. Plus, they all do the same basic function anyways. Thus, it'll make sense just to implement one infobox for all characters. Of course, variable flexibility occurs with the different characters as different attributes apply to different characters. Sailor Moon made a good test of that. Now, for missing info., that can easily be taken care of. :) KyuuA4 22:03, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

When I was an active LDS in the 1960s, temple garments were supposed to be worn all the time. Less pious LDS could violate that without sanction, but the principle was still taught. Are you LDS or how do you get your information? Korky Day 05:04, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

List of Famous Smokers embarrassing to the industry?

Remember that favour for me? A few people (possibly tobacco industry plants, though they'd deny it) eliminated this list, using flimsy excuses. I didn't notice till the vote was over. The article listed how many of them died: from tobacco. Could cut into tobacco profits to have this easily available to the public! I spent many hours making the article good. I'm told that only administrators can resurrect an article. Usage of Suffix.

Hey, I think I just found out something interesting here. While rewatching the entire series, I noticed that Rei is the only one who calls Usagi without the -chan suffix. Well, other then Michiru in the S Season. Perhaps this shows their friendship? If I remembered, to use ones name with a suffix like -san or -kun means you are relatively close to them. Minako even says it in S, when Michiru doesn't use the suffix on Haruka.--Hanaichi 11:48, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

Whoops I didn't read that guideline -.-. Thanks for telling me, so I won't go damage the other articles =P.--Hanaichi 02:19, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

I am sorry to hear that things are tense in real life. It is funny how things just develop in life like a new character joining the play. Oft times we are certain there was no invitation for its arrival, but it does not stop them from entering our lives. I am reminded of a wonderful story from Stephen Robison's book Believing Christ,
"When I was working on my master's degree at Brigham Young University, I shared several classes with a convert from Finland named Helvi Temisevä. Helvi had contracted polio at eight years of age, and this was followed soon thereafter by rheumatoid arthritis. So from her childhood Helvi had been totally incapacitated. She could not move her neck or her body. She had only partial use of her hands. She came to class in a strange conveyance that seemed a cross between a wheelchair and a bed. Helvi could type a single character at a time or turn the pages of a book (or scratch her nose) with the aid of a long knitting needle that she held in one hand. Only years later did I learn that it took forty-five painful minutes every morning for Helvi to be slowly raised from a reclining to a semi-sitting position so that she could begin her day, and another forty-five painful minutes to reverse the process in the evening so she could sleep.
And Helvi Temisevä never overcame life's obstacles; she never achieved her most cherished goals. She never walked. She never married. She never even defeated her need for twenty-four-hour care. But she endured to the end and was a blessing to all who knew her. When she died at age fifty-two, Saints on two continents mourned her passing. For Helvi radiated the light of Christ; she had as strong a hold on the iron rod as anyone I've known. In her presence, one could not be rude or coarse, could not swear, could not murmur or complain. She never said anything reproachful to me, but her example made me ashamed of all my sins. Helvi uplifted and improved all who met her, but it wasn't her courage that inspired us, it wasn't her victory over life's obstacles, it wasn't even her suffering—it was her commitment to the Savior, how she loved and how she served him even in her weakness, and even when he flatly, utterly denied her most fervent prayers. No, enduring isn't always overcoming. Sometimes it's being crushed and ground to powder—with his name on our lips.
As a continued stream of unwanted characters enter your life's stage, I hope you will remember Helvi. She was utterly and completely denied her most precious desires and yet she never lost the joy of knowing, serving, and loving our Savior. In even the worst storms of life we can be surrounded by peace. Keep your chin up! --Storm Rider (talk) 06:46, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

Hello.

Hey, just dropping by since I had free time (do I?). I need some opinion about the manga image I added to the Sailor Moon S page, its the one where Haruka kisses Usagi XD. Sailor Moon

I've already told everything but some people refuse to listen and they are edit warring.

I've already said none of the so called "sources" provided enough justification for the qualification of certain fansubs as "popular", which remains an editor's opinion. The use of a fan-wiki as a "source" is also highly disputable.

And blocking someone because you absolutely want to call your favorite fansub team "popular" won't serve you.

Considering I see no justification for your revert, I'll ask you to stop revert-warring and to stop using Wikipedia as a way to spread your opinions on illegal activities. Folken de Fanel 20:57, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
