[edit] Story
[edit] General Information
Shaman King: Master of Spirits, much like the anime and manga it's based on, is centered around Yoh Asakura and his battles to become Shaman King.
The story within the game plays like a "Sidestory", referring to elements within the story of both the manga and anime whilst not conforming to any particular continuity. In it, Yoh's goal is to stop the Guardian of Demons from being resurrected by a gang of rogue shaman.
Gameplay in Master of Spirits is similar to modern Castlevania games (Using the metroidvania system of gameplay) with the overall points of leveling up and exploration downplayed to a certain degree. Instead on one large non-liner map as normal in "Metroidvania" games for example, there is a map that links to various areas that can only be accessed via certain exits in an area. Also, leveling up is downplayed in favour of collecting spirits and using their powers to upgrade status like Max Hp, attack, Max MP and so on.
The game itself, whilst not having fatal flaws, does have its critics in response to its simplicity and overuse of map exploration, a surprising lack and simplicity in the moveset for Yoh and the lack of health pickups in the areas (Health can only be recovered by spending money to buy health items).
