Masunga is a town located in the North-East District of Botswana. The village is the Headquarters of the North East District. The nearest city is Francistown which is +/- 120 km (74.5 mi). The Chief of the region is Thabo Maruje Masunga who recently took over from his uncle Christopher Masunga.

Near Masunga lie the hills of Dombo Shaba, that hold a ruined outpost of the Empire of Great Zimbabwe (Mutapa).It is known to be one of the tourist attractions in Botswana where a yearly cultural ceremony takes place. The region was separated from the rest of the Empire when the Zulu, Ndebele, came north from South Africa, refugees from Shaka Zulu.

The language spoken in the North East Region is Kalanga, not Setswana like the rest of Botswana. Kalanga is a form of Shona, the main language of Zimbabwe.
