Mastermind is a power metal band raving from Japan. Having formed in 1995, the band has released four demos and four studio albums. There are five members of the band, all of whom are Japanese decent.

The band began in Japan in 1995 after members Yoshiyuki Watarai, Yoshiya Sato, Norio Sato, and Shin-ichi Kojima got together. With Norio Sato on vocals, Yoshiyuki Watarai and Yoshiya Sato on guitars, and Shin-ichi Kojima on drums. In the beginning, the band had a hard time acquiring a bassist. In 1998, Naoyuki Hasegawa joined the band as the full-time bassist and they were ready to get underway with production and music writing.

The band is noted as being extreme power metal, putting much emphasis on fast guitar and drum work, with an epic touch to their lyrics. The band consists of five members, including two guitarists for twin guitar solos.
