Master's Edge

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Master's Edge, at Millstone Quarry, was a first ascent made by Ron Fawcett, in December 1983. As one climbing magazine said at the time: "while the rest of us were tucking into Christmas lunch, Fawcett was out at work at Millstone."

Fawcett had been the best rock-climber in the country for many years, when Jerry Moffat arrived on the climbing scene and looked set to take his crown. Moffatt had said that anyone who could do this climb without abseiling down it first, or practising it on a top rope, would be a true master. 22 years after the first ascent, a true master has yet to put in an appearance.

The legendary German climber, Wolfgang Gullich, attempted the climb and fell, breaking his back.
