[edit] Character
Massimo Marone was a close childhood friend of Stephanie Douglas (Susan Flannery) went to college at Northwestern University with her, Eric Forrester (John McCook), and Beth Logan (Nancy Burnett). He owns a shipping company, Marone Industries, that Eric suspects has connections to underground crime networks. Soon after his arrival in LA, Massimo revealed to Eric that he had been a confidante to Eric's wife Stephanie for years - since Eric and Stephanie's first divorce. Under the influence of his feelings for Stephanie, Massimo made arrangements for Brooke Logan (Katherine Kelly Lang) to leave and move to Paris. His interference caused animosity between himself and Stephanie's eldest son, Ridge (Ronn Moss). When Ridge injured himself during an argument with Massimo, hospital blood tests revealed that there was no possible way for Eric to be Ridge's father. Massimo reminded a shocked Stephanie of the time they were intimate in college. Stephanie concluded that Massimo was Ridge's father not Eric but she begged an overjoyed Massimo to keep Ridge's paternity a secret. Massimo did so as long as he could.
Once the truth was revealed, Ridge soon opened his heart to his newfound father and left Forrester Creations after been betrayed by his entire family except his mother Stephanie. Ridge became Vice Chairman of the board of directors of Marone Industries, much to Massimo's joy. Massimo was even more shocked when he learned he had a second son, Dominick "Nick" Payne (Jack Wagner), from a affair with a whore named Jacqueline Payne (Lesley-Anne Down) years ago. Both of Massimo's sons were in love with Brooke Logan. Brooke returned to her true love Ridge and they married flew down to Puerto Vista in South America where Ridge then Nick then Brooke were kidnapped by Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown) who extorted $10 million in gold from Massimo but he was successful in rescuing Brooke and his sons but in a fight with Shelia's thugs Ridge fell into the burning furnance. Thinking that Ridge had been burned alive at the foundry Brooke was seduced by Ridge's younger half-brother Nick that night. Massimo was devastated that his oldest son was dead but Ridge turned out to be alive and Brooke discovered she was pregnant. Everyone wondered if Nick could be the father and once it turned out to be true they planned to raise the child. Massimo thinking the child was Nick's encouraged his union with Brooke but as a consequence Ridge was furious with Massimo and everyone else for supporting Nick. Once the truth came out that Ridge was the father, Massimo learned that Jackie had known for months there was a chance that the baby could have been Ridge's. A furious Massimo blamed Jackie for Ridge's anger toward him and the breakup of the Marones. When he learned that Jackie had an affair with Deacon Sharpe (Sean Kanan), the strain was too much and Massimo had a devastating stroke. Confined to a wheelchair and unable to move or speak, a paralyzed Massimo was forced to watch while the manipulative Deacon tried to steal his wife right in front of him. Massimo finally regained control of his life, and after hiring Heather Engle (Shari Headley) to make sure the once-alcoholic Deacon fell back off the wagon, he and Jackie reconciled. In an attempt to get Ridge back Massimo had Megan Conley (Maeve Quinlan) put information into Jackie's computer and had the FBI arrest her for federal tax fraud charges saying he would release her only if Nick left Brooke, who had divorced Ridge and reunited with Nick. Nick convinced Massimo to release Jackie but he didn't leave Brooke but Ridge did reopen his heart to his father for helping him try to get Brooke back.
Massimo began getting closer to Stephanie again and wondered if they could have a future together, and was instrumental in Stephanie's finding the document from her father that proved she was the rightful owner of Forrester Creations, which Eric had hidden from her for over 40 years. He was later thrilled when he was given a chance to meet Dominick, the son Felicia Forrester (Lesli Kay) had given birth to nine months after leaving LA (and Nick) behind. However, a paternity test soon revealed that Dante Damiano (Antonio Sabato, Jr.), not Nick, was the baby's father. Massimo was crushed but he remembered he had a new grandson, R.J. Forrester but Nick stole Massimo's company out from under him forcing the board to make him CEO of Marone Industries. Massimo left LA for parts that are unknown but he still remains the owner of Marone Industries and the patriarch of the Marone family.
