[edit] Route description

Along the section locally known as Broadway, Route 107 serves as a main road through the city of Revere, running past the city hall and police station. The junction with Route 60 is at Albert Brown Circle. From this rotary, the highway enters a section popularly known as the Marsh Road. As the name suggests, this section crosses a large expanse of uninhabited wetland. Because the highway is very flat and very straight at this point, it has been a popular place for drag racers over the years, often with tragic results.[citation needed] To the west of the highway, there is a wildlife sanctuary. To the east, commuter trains on the Rockport and Newburyport lines can often be seen crossing the marsh. The end of the marsh section is marked by the imposing figure of the Resco transfer station and its towering smokestacks.

As the highway enters the city of Lynn, becoming Western Avenue, it passes the General Electric River Works. This factory is famous for its production of jet engines. As Western Avenue approaches the city of Salem, it crosses Floating Bridge Pond. At one time, there was an actual floating bridge which has long since been replaced by the Buchanan Bridge which now carries Route 107 over the pond. After Floating Bridge Pond, the road ascends into the heights of Salem, often referred to as Witchcraft Heights. As such, the road is aptly named Highland Avenue. Among its notable features is the North Shore Children's Hospital. As Highland Avenue ends, Route 107 turns left onto Boston Street. At the next set of traffic lights, the highway turns right onto Bridge Street. It should be noted that at this intersection, a left turn leads to Gallows Hill Park. It was on the hill overlooking the park that the hangings of 1692 took place. There is nothing to mark the actual site, but there is a large water tower in the general area where the events occurred. The northern most section of Route 107 terminates near the Salem Commuter Rail train station where it meets Route 1A and Route 114.
