[edit] Music career
In 1998, one of hip-hop's most influential beatmakers, Swizz Beatz, recognized Mashonda's talent and took her under his wing, giving her the opportunity to write hooks for tracks like Eve's "Gotta Man" and Jay-Z's "Girl's Best Friend". He also featured her on hits like Mya's "Best Of Me" and Cassidy's "Get No Better." A full-length album, January Joy, was eventually released; due to poor radio reception to her singles "Blackout" (featuring Snoop Dogg) and "Back of the Club", however, the album was only released in Japan. The album was scheduled for a 2005 U.S. release, but has since been shelved indefinitely.
Mashonda has stated that she is currently in the studio working on her new CD. Originally titled Back to Business, it has now been changed to The Renovation Series. In an interview that was conducted in June 2008 with urban tabloid Hip Hop Weekly, Mashonda confirmed that the first single from her new EP will be a ballad called "No Panties". The video should be released within the next few months.
[edit] Other Ventures
In a statement released concerning her recent seperation from rapper Swizz Beatz, it was announced that Mashonda would be starting a luxury swimwear line called January Joy Intimates, a new album called The Renovation Series, dropping a new single called "No Panties" off a brand new EP consisting of about 4 to 5 brand new songs in order to build up anticipation for her new album. In addition to all of that, Mashonda is opening an arts based school for children located in her hometown of Harlem. .[1]
