Masey Sulkevich

Masey (Suleyman) Sulkevich ( 20 June 1865, Kemeyshi – 15 July 1920, Baku) was a lieutenant general of Russian Empire, Prime Minister of Crimea (1918), and chief of staff of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic Army (1918-1920).
Born to Muslim parents of Polish Tatar origin, he changed his name to Mahammed after settling in Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, but in Azerbaijan he is still known as Suleyman bey Sulkevich.
In the Russian Army since 1883, officer since 1886, major general since 1910 and lieutenant general since 1915, he participated in Chinese expedition against Boxers, Russo-Japanese War and the World War I. After the collapse of Russian Empire Masey Sulkevich formed the interim government in Crimea under the German occupying forces. Prior to loss of Crimea to White Russians, Sulkevich moved to Azerbaijan and became Chief of Staff of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic Army.
He was executed by the Bolsheviks, after the Soviet invasion of Azerbaijan in 1920
