Masaru Tomita

Masaru Tomita is a professor and the Director of Institute for Advanced Biosciences, Keio University. He received Ph.D (1985) in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University under Jaime Carbonell, and another Ph.D (1994) in Molecular Biology from Keio University. Among other awards and prizes, Dr. Tomita is a recipient of the Presidential Young Investigators Award from National Science Foundation of USA (1988) and IBM Japan Science Prize(2002).Dr. Tomita is responsible for the inception of the GLR parser algorithm as well as much of its evolution.
