Hi Martin

Removing the legal notice is not a problem for me, but to say it is after the fact, is contradicting my job as a WikiPedia Spam patrolman.

I did not put the notice after you blocked the anon IP user but before. I put the notice because I saw abuse of other editors being brought to administrators notice board Incidents#Anonymous_threatening.

Wikipedia:User_talk:122.167.6.1&action=history

Please word it appropriately, for future references. Thank you, Igor Berger (talk) 15:34, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

OK. NPA templates usually serve no good purpose at all other than to annoy a user. That's the ultimate reason I overwrite your warning in my edit conflict. Thanks, Martinp23 15:42, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
The problem is that I know how it is to be in front of the ANB for days while an anon abuses you, so when I saw the talk at the ANB and looked at the anon history I saw many problems covering all gama of abuse. We need to react quicker to Social Engineering Malware abuse. Also we need to educate our editors to explain the policy of WikiPedia to anon so the problem does not escalate to abuse. Maybe the anon just did not know how we do things by consensus. Anyway just trying to help out with the common cause..:) Igor Berger (talk) 15:51, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi, can you please drop me a line on my talk page? We don't know each other, you're simply the first person I found on the recent changes page, so I have somewhat of a guarantee you're online. Re:BAG

I think that you have misunderstood what you have seen. I didn't code the bot. I created the account, but not what it does, and it has been "run" through his account, though it isn't a "bot" per se, I speedy approved it becuase of all of the work that has already been done on its "tasks" that I didn't need to have it run a trial on that account, as it has been run on his main account, it is not written on code, it is manually done and assisted. ~ Dreamy § 20:25, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Actually he does need the bot flag because of the intent of the bot, it creates articles, and so they need to be automatically "patrolled", and so that they don't show up in Recentchanges, as they are created at a bhot-like speed, about three-six pages a minute. ~ Dreamy § 20:43, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
Well, the only other way to have what I stated above is to have been made an admin, and he has refused that before and doesn't want it now, I will have him comment on the BRFA page. ~ Dreamy § 20:47, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
Ah, 'tis no problem, mate. I would have made the same conclusion as well. I am commenting currently on the BRFA page. ~ Dreamy § 20:51, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Template:HD Archive header

A tag has been placed on Template:HD Archive header requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes.

Thanks. --MZMcBride (talk) 06:21, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

Re: Speedy taggings

Oops. Sorry about that. Do you have any thoughts on a method to mark the templates that are always substituted or would have a reason to be transclusion-less? I thought about a <noinclude> template on the Template page, but then I thought about something simpler like a category on the Template_talk: page. At the moment, it can be sort of a guessing game, or at least, pretty hard to tell, if a template is substituted or not. Cheers. --MZMcBride (talk) 19:41, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

I've created a category that could be used to keep track of these types of templates. --VectorPotentialTalk 19:53, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

Hello!

I investigated a parallel bus company that the AMT oversees too. It's the Société de transport de Montréal. There is a bus pass on it. Altough the image used is clearly not the same but the size and plastic type used is the same, take a look at Image:Cam-may-2005.jpg. Even tough it's not the same company, the STM allows the AMT bus pass to be used entirely on its service territory. It has been uploaded on Commons and look at the tag. I feel like it's the appropriate one. Thanks! --Party!Talk to me! 16:06, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

Suggested rename of User:Non-Free Content Compliance Bot

Cross-posted to User talk:Non-Free Content Compliance Bot, User talk:ST47, User talk:Martinp23, User talk:SQL, and User talk:Betacommand.

Would you (all four of you) consider asking for a rename of this bot to User:NFCC Bot (10c)? The reason is that I hope the proposal at Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria compliance will gain support, and part of that is a plan to create the following bot accounts to take on the roles of enforcing compliance of those aspects of WP:NFCC that can be checked by bots. User:NFCC Bot (3a), User:NFCC Bot (3b), User:NFCC Bot (7), User:NFCC Bot (9), User:NFCC Bot (10b), User:NFCC Bot (10c). Since the code proposed to run on User:Non-Free Content Compliance Bot is a clone of BetacommandBot's task of enforcing the bot-enforceable part of NFCC#10c, I think the rename I am proposing will help make things clearer. Could you post replies at User talk:Non-Free Content Compliance Bot? Thanks. Carcharoth (talk) 01:55, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

ANI debate on BRFA

Hi Martin

I thought I should notify you that I have just mentioned you in an ANI post, which you may want to look at. It's this post in Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#Comments_by_Philippe, where I seek some clarification from BAG in general. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 14:17, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

See also [2][. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 14:28, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
  • You have said: "It just need to be impressed upon BAG members that community input is of paramount importance. I've said it dozens of times now on WT:BAG, and as a result of this will produce a short message reminding BAG members exactly what the standards are and what I for one expect us to do. Seriously - I go on and on about how community input is the most important thing." - would you be able to point out where the previous discussions on WT:BAG are, and where the short message is (once you have produced it)? You also say that "the operators are all available on IRC and I for one am willing to help as far as I can via my talk page or (preferably) email" - I accept that bot operators will use IRC a lot, but is there any reason why lots of discussion (such as the discussions on that bot approval request) are taking place off-wiki? Could you also impress on BAG members the need to discuss things on-wiki as well as off, and that all actual actions and decisions need to be justified on-wiki if requested (and even, in many cases, if not requested)? Thanks. Carcharoth (talk) 10:50, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
Most recently probably my comment of 21:17, 31 January 2008 (UTC) on Wikipedia_talk:Bots/Approvals_group/Archive_5. As for IRC - personally I find it helpful for sanity checks. I believe the established wisdom is that we never make onwiki decisions offwiki (though this isn't the case in many fora). I do agree with you that it's a problem, and probably something best brought up at WT:BRFA or WT:BAG. Finally, my my message. Martinp23 16:42, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Cabals

There is a new discussion regarding the cabals which were brought up at MfD last week. I've started an informal consensus survey which I hope will help us come to a conclusion on whether the cabals should remain deleted. You can express your opinion at this page (link). Thank you. - DiligentTerrier (and friends) 12:47, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

I've replied to you there. Best, Keilana|Parlez ici 02:26, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Awarding Barnstar

The Barnstar of Good Humor
Aprils fools day was a blast. Loads of users lightened up to have good old fashion fun. I want to thank you for taking part in editing this page in particular and even though I may not know you, embrace the same talk pages, or even edit with you in the near future, I'd like to award you this Barnstar for making Wikipedia a fun environment in which to contribute. Until next year. :) SynergeticMaggot (talk) 13:59, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

Notification of Complaint

Swearing, mediation and dispute resolution - Attachment theory

   * KingsleyMiller (initiator)
   * Martinp23 (Administrator and member of the Wikipedia Mediation Committee)
   * CWii

[edit] Statement by User:KingsleyMiller

There is an unofficial policy operating in Wikipedia which condones the use of bad language ie swearing. The Wikipedia Administrator with the user name Martinp23 used the F word whilst editing (LINK). Wikipedia Administrators do not have special privileges and if other Editors can see Martinp23 get away with this form of intimidation they will feel there is nothing to stop them from doing so also. In this case the Editor with the user name CWii felt free to follow suit (LINK). CWii followed this with a warning to me about my behaviour on my user page (LINK). Martinp23 has also made comments about 'banging heads together' and that he knows this 'sort of dispute'(LINK). For somebody sitting on the Wikipedia Mediation Committee to make such comments without knowing the facts of the case is inappropriate.

I am asking the Arbitration Committee to decide that Martinp23 and CWii be restricted from any discussion in which I am also involved as well as any other sanction that may be appropriate. If no sanction is deemed necessary I should like the policy of swearing to be formally adopted by Wikipedia so that individual Editors may be prepared to know what to expect when they challenge the established status quo.
