[edit] Greetings from BR Hills
Dear doc,
Did not expect an american with a nick 'Martalli'!! Martalli is quite an obscure town in the interiors of Peninsular India, and now I meet a doc across the globe with such a nick on Wikipedia.....world is a small place now!!
Anyways, I am not sure if you got the name right with Srinivasan===Are you referring to Sridharan, the doc who has been working here since 91 or to the founder, Dr. Sudarshan??
Anyways, I am working here for the past 2 years, and in addition to medical work, I also do some biodiversity related work, as I am a birdwatcher. I am also working on the traditional knowledge documentation of the Sholagas, and some basic sickle cell anaemia documentation work. Do drop in whenever you are around Martalli>>>>>
A pleasure interacting with you, Regards, Prashanth NS BR Hills
[edit] Returning your greetings!
Great to hear from you Prasanth. I probably am a little confused there, but you've shaken my memory. When I was there in the BR Hills, there was a surgeon from Mumbai and pediatrician working there. I believe I was thinking of Dr. Sudarshan as the original founder of the VGKK project...At the time I visited, there was a Srinivasan working in the business office, although I wouldn't be surprised if there were several other Srinivasans there! Is Sridharan the pediatrician?
Although I met my wife in Bangalore, she is from rural Martalli originally. We have had such a time with visits, but I hope the next time we are visiting we can take a side trip to the BR Hills...I would love to watch the sun set from the devasthane and watch the lights of Yelandur and the farms flicker on in the distance again.
The BR Hills had a few medical firsts for me, and also some others - my first letter in Kannada (both read and written), and my first close encounters with bears, boars, and leeches. Fortunately, I never came upon any elephants at close range!
I hope all is well there in the BR Hills and VGKK!
Bryan / Martalli PS. Martalli makes a great nick - I think literally no one else was using it!
