[edit] Welcome

Welcome to Wikipedia. To find out how to make useful contributions, take a look at the welcome page. To stay in Wikipedia, an article has to be about something notable, that is, of general interest. Click on Notability for an explanation of what that means. Also, it must give independently verifiable sources. Articles that don't meet these requirements are likely to be deleted. Follow the links below to learn more:

If you have a close connection to some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred from the tone of the edit and the proximity of the editor to the subject, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:

  1. editing articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
  2. participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors;
  3. linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam);
    and you must always:
  4. avoid breaching relevant policies and guidelines, especially neutral point of view, verifiability, and autobiography.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have conflict of interest, please see Wikipedia:Business' FAQ. For more details about what constitutes a conflict of interest, please see Wikipedia:Conflict of Interest. Thank you. JohnCD (talk) 11:14, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] March 2008

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing in accordance with Wikipedia's blocking policy as it is apparent that this account is being used only to spam external links. Persistent spammers will have their websites blacklisted from Wikipedia. If you believe this block is unjustified, you may contest the block by adding the text {{unblock|your reason here}} below. This blocked user (block log | autoblocks | rangeblocks | unblock | contribs | deleted contribs) has asked to be unblocked, but an administrator has reviewed and declined this request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock request while you are blocked.

Request reason: "Gosh, I really hope I'm properly appealing this deletion/block. I would love to discuss the deletion/block and my ability to edit other. It is stated here that the account is being "used only to spam." That has never been, never will be, and never could possibly be The Marquee. The Marquee is a legitimate magazine located in Colorado that runs stories each month on local and nationally touring bands. Our biggest desire with Wikipedia is to be able to post to external links, at the bottom of band pages. I recently found, while searching the web that some bands had added external links to the stories we've written on them and so, we thought it'd be cool if we added some more. In doing that, I found that other publications have their information on pages and though we're not as large as Rolling Stone and the like, we think we have a place as well. Please do let me know what I can possibly do to have my block lifted and whether or not our page can be re-created....for the record that was an initial post and I was hoping to add more to the page today, when I found out we were blocked. I respectfully ask you reach back out to me on this. We don't want to be part of the spam problem. We're for real and woudl love to be included in the Wikipedia community. Thank you very much, Marquee editor - Brian F. Johnson"

Decline reason: "You may not use Wikipedia to promote your magazine, including through links; see WP:SOAP, WP:COI. Please only post another unblock request if you can indicate how you intend to otherwise productively contribute to this project. — Sandstein (talk) 23:06, 3 March 2008 (UTC)"

{{unblock|I guess, I understand if you think the having a Marquee Magazine page is a COI or being used as promotion. I don't think it is personally, but can see how you could/would see that. (I still then don't see how Rolling Stone and other publications can qualify, but that's a different subject. It says in WP: SOAP that external links can add relevance, but too many can take away from that. I'd simply like to be able to add those links as I think it can help. Our articles, again written from a non-biased perspective and the articles themselves are not selling or promoting anything but the bands themselves. Please let me know and thank you for your time. }
