[edit] Charlie Parker

Hi, I noticed you uploaded Image:Charlie parker.jpg and wanted to remind you to put source information and copyright information on it. We have to have this info, or the image can't be used; see Wikipedia:Copyrights for details. Thanks, Meelar (talk) 16:08, 2004 Jul 21 (UTC)

  • Uploaded new image and credited on page.Marlowe 16:23, 21 Jul 2004 (UTC)

I'm very sorry, but the new photo won't do. It's under copyright. Images have to be in the public domain, or released under the GFDL. Thanks. Meelar (talk) 16:29, 2004 Jul 21 (UTC)

P.S. You can try fair use, but I don't like relying on it. Meelar (talk) 16:30, 2004 Jul 21 (UTC)

  • Uhh, don't know what to tell you. Fair use sounds good to me. Otherwise, you can delete if neccessary. Thanks.Marlowe 16:35, 21 Jul 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Capone prison.jpg

Hello Marlowe, i wanted to ask you where you got that picture of Al Capone (Image:Capone prison.jpg) from. Is it really Public Domain or GNU/FDL? If yes, I'd like to know the source of it, as we in the German Wikipedia see the copyright stricter. --Greetings de:Crux

  • I got it from the US Gov't FBI website [1]. This is an FBI file photo so is in public domain, I believe. Thanks.

[edit] Unverified images

Hi! Thanks for uploading the following image:

  • Image:Dexter_gordon.jpg

I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag. Could you add one to let us know its copyright status? (You can use gfdl if you release it under the GNU Free Documentation License, fairuse if you claim fair use, etc.) If you don't know what any of this means, just let me know at my talk page where you got the images and I'll tag them for you. Thanks so much. Peter O. (Talk, automation script) 05:36, Dec 11, 2004 (UTC)

P.S. You can help tag other images at User:Yann/Untagged_Images. Thanks again.

[edit] Jack McGrun article

The Jack McGurn article is not a copy vio. The website you reference took its text from Wikipedia, not the other way around. Thanks. Marlowe

Where did you get the information from? And don't say you wrote it yourself, because you didn't. It came from a book. Believe me when I tell you this, I own the book and it is in there, word for word. I don't have the name of that book offhand, but that article is a word-for-word copyvio of it, unless its copyright has since expired, which I doubt.
Also, when a copyvio tag is added, it MUST remain there until the issue on the copyvio page itself has been officially resolved by an admin. Then and ONLY then can the copyvio tag be removed, as the information is then certified once more. If you wish to argue your case, please add a line below my notice there. Please do not revert this tag again. Thank you for your time. Master Thief Garrett 23:23, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)
    • I appreciate your desire to impugn my integrity here, but I WROTE THE PASSAGE MYSELF. I'm sorry that you think this is a copy vio, but unless you produce copy from the book you claim from which it came (the title of which you can't remember) i'm going to revert the page.Marlowe
      • I'm sorry, I know what it sounds like, I do not wish to make you look like a liar... all I know is the facts, that I read something identical, or, at the very least, ****ing similar, in that book. But I will dig the book out and get back to you shortly. If I'm mistaken, I am very, very, very sorry... Master Thief Garrett 23:24, 29 Apr 2005 (UTC)
        • Oh! I am so, so sorry! Upon closer inspection, the book has about five lines that are *almost* identical, especially the closing line, but it's just that those words are the most "fitting" terms in the English language and so were coincidentally chosen by both the author and you. It's still flippin' similar, but completely incidentally... I've reverted the article again. Sorry for all the trouble! Dear oh deary me... Master Thief Garrett 05:21, 30 Apr 2005 (UTC)
