Alpes-Maritimes

Just to say thanks for spotting my slip of the brain re "Alpes-Maritimes" in the 130 départements. You'll note that I referred to the "County of Nice" in the colour key, and yet I still somehow managed to miss it! Cheers, Silverhelm 01:21, 8 October 2005 (UTC).

Saint Paul

Before blindly reverting changes please check your sources: http://www.stpaul.fr/ --Alban 17:02, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

That's one, but see also St-Paul on French wikipedia, the word "lès" on French wikipedia, the entry of St-Paul on the website of the French statistics office. There may be variant spellings with "lez", but anyway, it's certainly with hyphens in French. Markussep 19:01, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

If you want to hold a contest of the number of sites that use either name, we can certainly do this. The link I provided is the commune's own official web site. They should know how it's written, shouldn't they? If you don't speak French, ask a friend to translate the page for you. I will not further revert your change, but will come back to the matter at a later time if you don't agree. --Alban 19:22, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

I speak French, don't worry. It's a minor detail, but I still think the official name is with "lès", and hyphens. Take a look at this map, they have both spellings (and capital "Lès" when you zoom in). Markussep 20:23, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

Route nationale

Thanks for correcting the links etc on the Route Nationale's, it proved beyond the time I had available. CheersVivbaker 10:52, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

Avanton

Hi. I'd like to thank you for adding that Avanton article, especially considering that I had only added Cone d'Avanton a few hours earlier. athinaios (talk) 16:31, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. I followed your advice. It's now Avanton Gold Cone. athinaios (talk) 17:35, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

There are a huge amount of French communes missing aren't there!!! We don't need people taggin them like above. Are you going to set them all up? I'll give you a hand ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 21:59, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Yep theres a huge amount missing, after you;re Herculean effort with Germany and then Austria/Switzerland I wasn't sure!!! But I'm sure we can get it done between the few of us. There are a handful of other editors who are gradually doing it. User:Olivier, myself and a number of others. At present I'm just helped set up 50 new WIkiProjects for Africa and am rather busy at present but I'll add some when I have time. I had begun wroking through Ain and aimed to go through alphabetically so I know what's done. Stubbing them, without an infobox is quicker I agree!! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 22:09, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Thats great. I've seen at least another three editors regularly doing them too. AWB is probably the best way to get the pages up and running. Infoboxes can be added later. Some of the French sites have a lot of info on the communes too. Definately worth doing -if you could gradually work through them in alpha order I know where we are also. There are also hundreds of agglomeration articles missing -you know the cluster communes like there were with Germany ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 22:19, 21 January 2008 (UTC). What are you talking about? It doesn't make any difference ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 14:57, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

It doesn't matter does it? . The most important thing is that thes epages are started and can then be built upon. Am I missing something valuable here? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 14:59, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

Ahh I'm with you now thanks. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 15:03, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

Yes it would be great if you could sort out the double links so that we can go through and not have to dig out the wrong links. I am working through methodically through the departments alphabetically. If you could kind of help clear the pathway for me you wouldn't need to go back and find the doubles afterwards. Regards ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 16:52, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

Cher communes

hi. I see you are creating articles for Cher communes. I've got no problem with the very basic info you are giving, but others might have. Perhaps you could provide a little more info as in Cantigny, Somme? Mjroots (talk) 18:44, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

OK, as I said, I've not got a problem. :-)) Mjroots (talk) 18:48, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Missed one!

Ault, Somme has been missed! Typical, as I have a bit of info to add in on that one! Mjroots (talk) 22:27, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

My mistake, I thought you were doing Somme. It's Dickeybird who has been doing the Somme communes. Mjroots (talk) 23:13, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

We'll get France nailed soon. I'm off next week and will be able to spend evne more time stubbing. Its about time they were blue linked. Then the infoboxes can be added and articles developed. I think we're making good progress ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 22:54, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi can you fix the links for Communes of the Lot-et-Garonne department thanks ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 00:43, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

Did you fix the links for Lot-et-Garonne? I left that one as there were so many links that needed sorting ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 15:39, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. Yes that department had a great deal more double links than normal. I'll try to do that later. I'm making good progress anyway 15:56, 22 February 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Blofeld of SPECTRE (talkcontribs)

Stubs

I kindly ask you to stop creatin one-lined stubs about villages. It does us absolutely no help by saying "ABC is a village and commune in the XYZ département of France." and telling us to see the French article. If you want to have an article on the places, I ask that you take a few moments to translate some information from the French article either from the text or the infobox when creating an article here. In its current state, articles such as Goulet, Orne really aren't telling readers anything. Before going on to making another stub, give the coordinates, population, etc. rather than bluntly telling others to see the French article. Thanks, Reywas92Talk 14:57, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

Maybe the editsummary was a little off - but the stub creation is no problem at all in fact rather a short stub than nothing as this makes it a lot easier to disambiguate incoming links. Agathoclea (talk) 15:02, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
Yes I realize that there is more to come and this is only the first step, but I really think that an article should be of reasonable length and be on the second step before moving on to the next article. Cheers, Reywas92Talk 15:08, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

Did you know that the infoboxes on the French Wikipedia can be transferred here? Just copy and paste it from the French article to the English article. I have already done so at Saint-Pierre-d'Entremont, Orne. I would really appreciate it if I could really learn something from these rather just being told where it is, and the infobox helps. Reywas92Talk 15:14, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

French communes

I'll give it a shot, but I probably won't be able to do many today; while I'm at home I'm on dialup, which makes heavy editing a chore. Besides which, we're supposed to be switching over to high-speed tomorrow, which means that I have to switch the computer tonight, so I won't have much time for editing.

I'll try and get the bulk of what's left done either Friday or Saturday, once I have access to a high-speed connection and some time on my hands. Sorry I can't be of more use today. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 20:52, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

Excellent - enjoy le beau pays, mon vieux. I for my part will see what I can do this weekend. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 21:39, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
OK - I'll do some mopping up in the near future. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 01:20, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi thanks for your support. It can get pretty infuriating the consistent negative messages that seem to collect on my talk page with all the work that we do, at times this site is the last place I want to be. Anyway as there aren't too many left to do now I'll create them with an infobox until they are completed. Then I think it should be a priority to add the infboxes and some basic details and try to sort out a map that can automatically be sorted for each one. Best regards ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 19:07, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

That would be awesome. I've done the same with over a hundred countries worldwide so most places can have a map. I really dislike the funny one we've got at present -too complicated. Oh the irony of you visiting France. Remember to take some photos!!! Regards ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 19:13, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Oh yes I much prefer the actual map rather than the bland one they use over on french wiki. I was talking about the way it has to be pinned. I think that map is very attractive -just needs to be made automatic , or made like the infobox settlement e.g like Abaw -where you enter the coordinates normally and it displays on the map ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 19:19, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

French commune completion

Hi I think I finished starting them all today. unless I am mistaken Communes of the Somme department is the only one left but i can see someone is adding infoboxes type articles to that department so I didn't want to intrude. ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 22:39, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

Thats great I thought it had been done already though!! I#m gradually adding infoboxes and images to Yvelines first but it won't dominate my time on here. It will be a gradual thing and would be great if when you have sorted Germany and Austria if you could help. If I see other editors adding them I feel encouraged and vice versa. Cheers ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 15:54, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

I think that map looks fine ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 12:56, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

I haven;t been doing much on here today. COuld you show me an example on an existing article? ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 17:39, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Anyway you can fix the french commune box so it shows automatically? ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 18:13, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Very good - I think it'll be a great help. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 18:32, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

French communes

HI Mark. Thanks for adding the map. Theres two things we need to sort out. Adding the WikiProject French communes work group to the main france template and creating some sort of register to assess which communes have got infoboxes. ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 11:15, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

Yes the banner in the talk page e.g {{WikiProject France|class=stub|Communes=yes}} for the french communes task force to show up. Its jusy 95% of the page aren't tagged yet in the talk pages. I;ve been going through Yvelines ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 13:07, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

Caro, Pyrénées-Atlantiques

What is your source for spelling the commune name as Çaro, rather than Caro. According to the two external links in the article (INSEE and Quid), the name is Caro. Regards, Kiwipete (talk) 23:49, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

My Mistake

I'm terribly sorry, it seems I got a tad "edit happy" and accidentally reverted your edit. I had not known about this new feature (but now I do!). I reverted my mistake.

Sorry, --Cupivistine Noscere? (talk) 22:57, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

French communes

If you are not already a member, you are invited to WikiProject French communes. Basketball110 Go Longhorns! 16:49, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

As Dickeybird is adding the Cantons (thank god) I'll get around to making some canton templates by department over the next few days. Today I'm working on Template:Hydrology of Slovenia, another incredibly scenic country. I'll probably create a few later ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 17:33, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

Yes of course it wouldn't be all in one template LOL. Whoever created the templates for the communes by department may want to give it a thought to create a template for the cantons by department. If I have time I'll create a few but at present I haven't got much time for wikiing. Regards ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 16:08, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Much prefer the new map looks good doesn't it!! Can you make a note, I know you are busy as we all are, but in the next few weeks/months to take note of Italy also. I've seen irregularity with communes which have infoboxes or don't. Admittedly I think it was my fault as I stubbed many of them and when your fellow dutchman Eugene van der phil used his Eubot to bot them back in August 2006 he ignored the articles which had already been started. I've seen shamefully little development on them since ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 22:29, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Yup I knew it was only a minority but smartly done amigo. Regards ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 14:41, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Commune infobox

The "commune of" is very important, because French communes are very small administrative units, so it's important to keep it on top of the infobox to warn people that the information within the infobox concerns only the administrative commune and not the larger urban area/city. The commune of Lyon (Ville de Lyon) for example is extremely small, containing less than 500,000 people when in fact Lyon is a very large urban area with 1.4 million inhabitants. Intercommunalities have been created to better reflect the real size of French cities (for example Grand Lyon). The whole system is extremely complicated, which is why it is important to name things precisely (do we talk of the commune? the intercommunality? the urban area? the metropolitan area? the departmental arrondissement?). An infobox which would have only "Lyon" on top would be extremely unclear (is it the tiny commune of Lyon? the urban area of Lyon? the arrondissement of Lyon?). Godefroy (talk) 01:48, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I've restored the previous image size for "image_map" in {{Template:French town map}} (280px); all existing x and y would be inaccurate if the map size is changed. — M-le-mot-dit (T) 15:37, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi again, I've done a more contrasted version of France_blank.svg: France_blank3.svg.

What do you think of using it in the Commune infobox ? — M-le-mot-dit (T) 18:27, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
