[edit] Speedy deletion of Dr. Ron Simmons

A tag has been placed on Dr. Ron Simmons requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. [edit] November 2007

You should wait for others to write an article about subjects in which you are personally involved. This applies to articles about you, your achievements, your band, your business, your publications, your website, your relatives, and any other possible conflict of interest.

Creating an article about yourself is strongly discouraged. If you create such an article, it might be listed on articles for deletion. Deletion is not certain, but many feel strongly that you should not start articles about yourself. This is because independent creation encourages independent validation of both significance and verifiability. All edits to articles must conform to Wikipedia:No original research, Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, and Wikipedia:Verifiability.

If you are not "notable" under Wikipedia guidelines, creating an article about yourself may violate the policy that Wikipedia is not a personal webspace provider and would thus qualify for speedy deletion. If your achievements, etc., are verifiable and genuinely notable, and thus suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later. (See Wikipedia:Wikipedians with articles.) Thank you. Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry 02:08, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia articles

I think part of what you're running into is that, presumably because they are reprinted from another type of work, at least some your articles generally aren't written in an encyclopedic tone, most aren't referenced, they seem to tend include personal trivia and/or personal opinions that doesn't belong in an encyclopedia, they tend to not have proper Wikipedia:Lead sections, and you don't seem to have made much effort to familiarize yourself with Wikipedia standards, EG Wikipedia:Naming conventions. Patsy Lynch is getting close to Wikipedia standards, but still has things like commentary like "She seems to have been everywhere and to have known everyone." And, unless there are sources to cite, tidbits like "mentored by her friend JEB" generally don't belong. This Template:Welcomeg has many links to helpful policies and guidelines. Wikipedia:Tutorial might be a faster way to get familiar with some of the basics.

Wikipedia has a wealth of LBGT-related material (see also Template:LGBT-footer)--that is not what people are having a problem with. If you had been writing more formal, fact-based, and focused, and more consistently referenced, articles from scratch, you probably wouldn't have had such a negative experience; and assuming the people you're writing articles about meet the notability criteria, none of the articles would have been deleted. Unless he's better known under a different name, ABilly S Jones-Hennin, for example, doesn't appear to meet the criteria. Wikipedians have to be very vigilant about copyright issues--a clear statement regarding your connection to your website, and that you are releasing the text you're copying under Wikipedia's GFDL license on your User page and all Talk pages of articles you create as website copies could help, although it would be better if new articles were written that are more consistent with Wikipedia standards. [edit] Copyright problems

Hello. Concerning your contribution, ABilly S Jones-Hennin, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from either web sites or printed material without the permission of the author. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://www.rainbowhistory.org/jones.htm. As a copyright violation, ABilly S Jones-Hennin appears to qualify for deletion under the speedy deletion criteria. ABilly S Jones-Hennin has been tagged for deletion, and may have been deleted by the time you see this message. For text material, please consider rewriting the content and citing the source, provided that it is credible.

If you believe that the article or image is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) then you should do one of the following:

  • If you have permission from the author, leave a message explaining the details at Talk:ABilly S Jones-Hennin and send an email with the message to "permissions-en (at) wikimedia (dot) org". See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
  • If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted under the GFDL or released into the public domain leave a note at Talk:ABilly S Jones-Hennin with a link to where we can find that note.
  • If you own the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GFDL, and note that you have done so on Talk:ABilly S Jones-Hennin.

However, for text content, you may want to consider rewriting the content in your own words. Thank you, and please feel free to continue contributing to Wikipedia. SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 15:50, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Personal note...

Hi, Mark,

I bet you're tired of all the automated notes above regarding the four or five articles you started on here. Sorry about that! Because they come from another website, we have to be *very* careful about copyright issues.

I wanted to let you know about the LGBT WikiProject, a group of editors that might be able to help with starting articles like those you put up. Please stop by there and say "Hi" on the project's talk page!

Thanks, -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 15:53, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
