[edit] The Bill

[edit] Formatting

Hey Mark, thanks for your recent edits to The Bill page. I have reverted many edits from PC Sally who keeps moving Billy Rowan and Sally Armstrong into the main cast list from the upcoming character changes list. --NeilEvans 21:55, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

Many thanks for your message NeilEvans. I'm always happy to help, I am also getting rather annoyed with users such as PC Sally Armstrong etc, but glad to know I'm not the only one. Cheers. User talk:Mark bickley 19:15 1st July '07

[edit] The Bill: Next Episode

Thanks for your effort adding this, but I had to zap it as a copyright violation - we can't just run press releases! Although an official press release might be usable as a source ... Do our Bill articles usually include a complete article for each episode? I see it's already listed in List of The Bill episodes/23 - David Gerard 22:41, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

List of The Bill episodes/23 is very rarely updated, and I didn't think there would be a problem as the press centre release is published on many forums etc. I had the plan of updating The Bill: Previous Episode and The Bill: Next Episode weekly with the new episode guides, but please accept my apologies for violating wikipedia's copyright policies, I did not realise User talk:Mark bickley 19:50 July 5th '07

[edit] Replaceable fair use Image:Sallyrogers2.JPG

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Sallyrogers2.JPG. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kurt Shaped Box 14:25, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

This picture is important because it demonstrates Sally Rogers out of her television acting appearances and is used to characterize her as herself, rather than as a character. It is difficult to find an alternative image that does the same. User talk: Mark bickley 16:45, 19th July '07
Hi Mark. Have a read of Wikipedia:Non-free_content#Examples_of_unacceptable_use, specifically point 17. Fair-use images of living people are almost never allowed on WP. It would be relatively easy for a fan to take/upload a photo of Sally Rogers and release it under GFDL or into the public domain (I have seen several such photos posted elsewhere on the web in the past). --Kurt Shaped Box 18:47, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
Well you can delete it if you must but it seems pretty pointless looking for another when that one serves the purpose. User talk: Mark bickley 21:00, 19th July '07

Okay we cant use Image:Sallyrogers2.JPG or Image:Sallyrogers.jpg to illustrate Sally Rogers because they are 'non-free' images, so why does every other character of The Bill have images of their character on the actor/actress' page?? What was the point in any of this?? There are other ways to cure bordem! User talk: Mark bickley 23:05, 20th July '07

It's all explained at Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria. With very few exceptions, you cannot use 'fair use' images to merely show what a living person looks like any more. Using them to depict the *character* in the article about the character is a completely different matter. The only reason that the screenshots/publicity photos are still there in the actor articles is because no-one has noticed/managed to get around to removing them yet. --Kurt Shaped Box 22:32, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] July 2007

Please do not post copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Mark, you cannot simply use Google Images to find pictures of The Bill's cast and upload them to WP claiming that you created them. Using Photoshop to flip them doesn't mean that you 'created' the image. Kurt Shaped Box 20:43, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

I'm very impressed that you noticed. Well I'm all out of ideas for actor pics then, short of actually taking the picture myself, so I give up. User talk:Mark bickley 18:20 22nd July '07

[edit] Your alternate account at 90.240.240.173

Hello Mark. Someone has nominated for deletion your redirect of the user talk of your IP account, 90.240.240.173 (talk ยท contribs) over to the Talk page of your regular logged-in account, which I believe is this page here. This leads to a puzzling situation. Though it is not forbidden to have multiple accounts, your creation of a redirect seems unusual. Is there a specific reason why you would want to use both accounts, instead of just using the logged-in account? If you were to just ignore the IP account and stop using it, nothing bad would happen. The RFD debate is here. EdJohnston 02:33, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi EdJohnston. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I created the redirect because I kept forgetting to log in before editing and I dont check the talk page of my IP, so had anyone wanted to discuss any edits I made with my IP rather than my account, then they could add it on my account talk page and I would notice it. I have now removed it to avoid any unnecessary confrontation with other users. Thanks again. user talk:Mark bickley 18:25 22nd July '07

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Lisa goodall.jpg

Thank you for uploading Image:Lisa goodall.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 12:58, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:PC Emma Keane.JPG)

Thanks for uploading Image:PC Emma Keane.JPG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:15, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
