[edit] Newcastle United FC - Rivals
You just beat me to reverting that - it's purely vandalism. Had assumed it was condescending NUFC fan(s) trying to imply Sunderland are beneath contempt. I've had to revert the same change several times in the past too. Cheers. AndrewMcQ 19:12, 20 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks
Thanks for the pat on the back regarding the glory hunter article. I was considering putting a link on the Man Utd page, since it's mostly about them, but I thought people may take offence at the link name "Glory Hunter" appearing on the MU page. Maybe my section of the article would be better as a stand-alone article with a link from the glory hunter page. But what would the category and article title be then? It's more of a report than an encyclopedia article. I'll leave it there for now; any thoughts? Cheers --Slumgum 20:06, 29 November 2005 (UTC)
- I like what you suggest. Perhaps split the article and form a new one which deals with the commercialisation of football, linking to the glory hunter article. Mark272 22:54, 30 November 2005 (UTC)

You're probably right. I think the same individual has also edited some other pages in a similar fashion, but also seems to have made a few "genuine" edits to other articles. IainP (talk) 11:53, 1 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Stephen Ireland
I reverted your change to Stephen Ireland, as Ireland's birthdate is definitely 1986. Some sources (including the BBC) state 1988, but this is due to a mistake in the press release when Manchester City issued their squad numbers. Oldelpaso 18:31, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] 1992-93 in English football
Hi, I am completely new to all this and thought I'd better check that I am doing things the correct way before doing much more. Is the format I am using for the league tables OK or isn't there an agreed way of doing it? Is the layout for the page a standard (template?) as I was thinking of maybe adding top scorers for the season to it. I just don't want to tread on anyone's toes through my lack of knowledge or etiquette. User:TomeBrown Time Unknown (UTC)
- I think we are duplicating some areas which already exist. I came across FA Premier League 1993-94 quite by accident. There are other seasons as well. Isn't duplication frowned upon? User:TomeBrown Time Unknown (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Article improvement drive
Hi Mark272,
Wikipedia:WikiProject Football is starting a football Article Improvement Drive. This is a weekly collaboration to improve football (soccer) articles to featured article status. Articles to be improved can be nominated by registered users, with an explanation of what work is needed. Each Sunday, the article with the most support votes is chosen and then worked on to make it better than what it is. You're invited to take part in the drive Thanks. Conscious 18:44, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Football AID
Football World Cup has been selected as this week's collaboration. Please do help in working to improve it.
[edit] Football AID 8-14 January
Argentina and Brazil football rivalry has been selected as this week's collaboration. Please do help in working to improve it.
[edit] Football AID 15-21 January
UEFA Champions League has been selected as this week's collaboration. Please do help in working to improve it.
[edit] Carl Asaba
Thanks for the note about your plan. The entire text of the article I deleted was "He's a Palace fan." So, I fully expect you to do better! :) FreplySpang (talk) 18:49, 17 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Football AID 23 - 29 January
Bobby Charlton has been selected as this week's collaboration. Please do help in working to improve it.
[edit] Football AID 12 February - 18 February
FC Dynamo Kyiv has been selected as this week's collaboration. Please do help in working to improve it.
[edit] Thanks for taking an interest
..in my userpage. The 15/82 statistic that was left was indicative of the red links still on that page, not of the blue links which had already had articles created for them, some by me, some by other users.
And still despite this, I tend to miscalculate.. never to worry.
Love and mercy. Bobo. 13:12, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Image copywright problems
[edit] Image copyright problem :Image:Kidderminsterbadge.gif
Thanks for uploading Image:Kidderminsterbadge.gif. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law. We need you to specify two things on the image description page:
- The copyright holder, and
- The copyright status
The copyright holder is usually the creator. If the creator was paid to make this image, then their employer may be the copyright holder. If several people collaborated, then there may be more than one copyright holder. If you created this image, then you are the copyright holder.
Because of the large number of images on Wikipedia, we've sorted them using image copyright tags. Just find the right tag corresponding to the copyright status of this image, and paste it onto the image description page like this: {{TAGHERE}}.
There are 3 basic ways to licence an image on Wikipedia:
- An open content licence
- Public Domain
- Fair Use
- The copyright holder gets the best protection of their work by licencing it under an open content license such as the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike licence. If you have the express permission of the copyright holder to licence their work under the above licence, use the image copyright tag: {{cc-by-sa-2.5}}. The GNU Free Documentation License is another option. Again, if you have the express permission of the copyright holder, use the tag {{GFDL}}.
- The copyright holder can also release their work into the public domain. See here for examples.
- Images from certain sources are automatically released into the public domain. This is true for the United States, where the Wikimedia servers are located. (See here for images from the government of the USA and here for other governments.) However, not all governments release their work into the public domain. One exception is the UK (see here for images from the UK government). Non-free licence governments are listed here.
- Also, in some cases, an image is copyrighted but allowed on Wikipedia because of fair use. To see a) if this image qualifies, and b) if so, how to tag it, see Wikipedia:Fair use.
For more information, see Wikipedia:Image copyright tags. Please remember that untagged images are likely to be deleted.
If you have uploaded other images without including copyright tags, please go back and tag them. Also, please tag all images that you upload in the future.
If you have any questions, just leave a message on my talk page. Thanks again. --David Johnson [T|C] 22:36, 18 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Plymouth_badge.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Plymouth_badge.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).
The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images on Wikipedia is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}
.
Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. You can get help on image copyright tagging from Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags. -- Carnildo 00:57, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Alan Shearer photos
Hi, I have listed photos of Alan Shearer that you uploaded at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images#August 16:
- Image:Ashearer.jpg
- Image:Ashearer2.jpg
- Image:Alanshearer.jpg
They lack sufficient copyright information, licensed incorrectly and/or do not meet fair use criteria. If their copyright status cannot be verified, they may be deleted. Thank you. Ytny 19:42, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
- The most important information you need to include is who owns the copyrights, i.e. news/photo agency or the photographer. You should also include when/where the photograph was taken.
- However, the other issue is that the photos are unfree copyrighted images, and they probably do not meet fair use criteria. So the very quick answer to your question is that the photographs don't belong on Wikipedia unless there's a very compelling reason why the photographs are necessary (I don't think there is one). [edit] List of Football Referees
Hi Mark! I came across this list yesterday and I am wondering how to improve it (or if we even need it at all). Presently, the list of current referees, their countries, and the year they became international is listed on the FIFA website. There are ways to make this list more useful. Do you think we should try to include more information on each entry? Let me know. Canuck89 16:29, 11 March 2006 (UTC)
- Okay, then why don't we set a format. The year they retired will probably be 45 years of age for most top referees (mandatory age). Example for retired FIFA referes: Joe Smith (1999-2004). For current FIFA referes: Joe Smith (2002-Present). We can write something at the top of the article that mentions that years indicate time when the Referee was designated FIFA or something. Is that okay? Canuck89 19:39, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Clarence Acuña
Hi Mark, I've done some work on the article you created on Acuña and I was wondering if you would be able to add a picture of him to complete the article. I would but I wouldn't know where to begin! Hope you reply. Alec McEnemin 21:01, 20 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Craig Harris (Coronation Street character)
I noticed that you edited the Coronation Street characters page to move the link away from the actual Craig Harris (Coronation Street character) page to the Craig Harris disambiguation page. I've noticed that you keep altering the squad so that it's no longer centred - could you either stop, or let me know why you're doing this? Thanks. Robwingfield 23:27, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
- Hi. I was altering the current squad so that the two columns would be more aligned to one another. Mark272 23:31, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
- I assumed that's what you were doing. :-) But as there are 30 players in the squad (including #13!), it makes sense to have 15 in each column... hence why the mid-point should be between Ívar and Bobby. What do you think? Robwingfield 00:10, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
- That sounds fair enough. Seemingly, the brackets beside the players "on loan" or "loaned from" aren't helping keep alignment. Mark272 00:45, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
- Aah... that depends on the size of your monitor! But it's logical to split the table half-way through the squad. Thanks. Robwingfield 08:49, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your message. I was referring to the table at FA_Premier_League#FA_Premier_League_Winners_to_date. It's the first time that I have really looked at this table as my other focus has been on the All Time FA Premier League Table. [edit] George Robledo
Good work on the George Robledo article, and thanks for saving me the work, it seemed a big oversight not to have an article on him considering that he was one of the first South Americans to play in England. I'll dig out my history of Newcastle United book later on today and add in anything that I find, though I think most of the bases are covered already. Are you planning on doing an article on his brother Ted, too? --Daduzi talk 16:53, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- Right, I finally got around to adding what I could find to the article. I kept most of the original article, the only thing I removed was the reference to him being coach of Chile since, even though it's mentioned in a lot of places, this list of national team managers hasn't got him on it. I'm not going to start on Ted in the immediate future, if you decide to do so this page has loads of info on the Robledos if you can understand Spanish or Babelfish (the language I used to read it). --Daduzi talk 06:25, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Sigh
I give up... [1] SteveO 22:25, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
- There is actually some useful information being added with it all. But it gets a bit annoying when after messages from a dozen different users he still doesn't wikify and continues to add so many sub-sections (often very pov) to articles. He seems to be oblivious to it all. I think it's best to just watch for future edits and remove anything that drastically undermines an article. SteveO 17:56, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletions
Hi Mark!
Speedy deletions are applicable only in a couple of very clear, specified circumstances. You can find a list of these exclusive reasons at WP:CSD.
Speedy deletions for other reasons will be ignored. If you still want an article to be deleted but it doesn't come under the CSD, you might like to read up about medium-speed WP:PROD and slow-speed WP:AfD deletes.

[edit] Football in regions of England
As I said before...I give up.
Surely most of that article has been covered elsewhere. Aside from leaving a message on his talk page, which is completely pointless, what do you suggest? SteveO 21:35, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
- Or you could try a hidden message that he's bound to see when he edits the page again. Other than that, I can't think. SteveO 21:49, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
- Guess who's back. I've tried a new approach at the top of his talk page. Do you think I made it obvious enough? Oldelpaso 21:40, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Odd Sissoko Edit
I was wondering if you'd care to explain the following sentence that was added by your account to the Mohamed Sissoko article. After the sentence:
- He is often compared to Patrick Vieira due to similar high energy levels and a tendency to make hard tackles.
you wrote:
- (Although, let's be honest if he wasn't black, he wouldn't be compared to him).
While this may be true it's obviously a very unprofessional edit. aLii 22:38, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Suiko lists.
Re your question: Yes, I merged the articles completely for S3-only characters. Chris Lightfellow, for example, is now a redirect to List of Suikoden III characters#Chris Lightfellow, with {{R with possibilities}} attached so that links to that redirect aren't replaced by bots (since Chris may well get her own article back one day, if, say, she appears in a future Suikoden, or her section just generally gets too long.). That way, other articles/sections linking to Chris can do so in the natural way, rather than a convoluted "List" link.
If you want to make the Suiko II character list article, by all means go ahead. I'd be happy to offer any formatting advice, but I don't really know Suiko II nearly as well as Suiko III. Some ideas could be found at Category:Lists of Square Enix characters, probably, most of these lists seem reasonably well done. SnowFire 20:11, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
- Re redirects: My personal philosophy on this is that if anyone is likely to have cause to link to the character, then a redirect is worthwhile. I can easily see someone wanting to link to Euram Barows in another article, and in fact it is already linked from the main SuikoV article, so I created a redirect there. However, nobody is ever going to reference characters like Meroon or Wan Fu. They'll always be short entries in their list articles and nothing more. So, the only place they'll ever be linked to will be the 108 Stars table article (or the Notable Suikoden characters article), and there a direct link to the list page can be placed instead (with proper anchor, naturally). Some lesser characters get the redirect by default, because they had articles about them that were later merged. For instance, Nelis, since you linked to it from another article, is an entirely reasonable redirect to create. I'm not sure if I personally would have created the Hallec redirect, though, since it doens't seem to likely to be linked to from somewhere other than the table; plus, with no (Suikoden) after it, there's the possibility that it may be used for another article in the future, which would then require an update to the table. But redirects are "cheap," so in general, erring on the side of more redirects is fine.
- Another related note is that direct links over redirects are apparently slightly easier on the servers. It's not a huge difference, and it's certainly not worth fussing about if the redirect link is clearer and more readable for human editors. However, if there's only ever going to be one link to the character from a table with a name that people won't type into the "go" box due to the (Suikoden) clarifier, we might as well mildly speed up the server load.
- Make of this what you will. Glad to see that others are up for working on the Suikoden articles. SnowFire 17:55, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image rationales.
First, nice job uploading the Suikogaiden pictures... that said, I think you copied a little too much from the cover rationales elsewhere. First off, the resolution on Vol. 2 is fine and not on the high end; but more importantly... I certainly hope that the source for these two images isn't unknown, since you presumably were the one who found it! That's something I wrote after the fact on the other images where I wasn't the uploader (Check out Image:SuikodenIV cover.jpg for an image where I was the most recent uploader). Technically, the source is required for all images on Wikipedia; I just didn't figure it'd matter for easily replaceable images like most game covers. SnowFire 22:02, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
- I wouldn't worry about the notability of the site itself; it doesn't really matter for images. (The only way the website would be important is if they had a big "no stealing our images we already stole ourselves!" disclaimer up, which is pretty rare. Websites that want to do that generally just watermark their images instead.) SnowFire 00:22, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] TF:Suiko
I see you've been tearing it up on the Suikoden front today! Thank you so much! Also, thanks for correcting my spelling error! Have a great one! bwowen talk•contribs 23:36, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Two minor questions / notes
Re changing the section headers: Personally, I dislike "Audio" as a section title, and think articles elsewhere that use it are making a mistake. There's no need for complete conformity, in any case, since different articles have different needs. "Music" is also an acceptable header, but I think "Soundtrack" is the right way to go here, since it implies that it was sold individually as well as used in the game. There's nothing interesting to say about the sound effects in 99% of games, which is the only possible reason to use "Audio" rather than "Music" or "Soundtrack;" they're both more accurate and more evocative than the sterile "Audio."
Secondly: Did you remove the image from the Suikoden III article intentionally? It's not a great one, but eh, I figured the article could use slightly more. If you think it should be gone, that's fine, but just checking due to the orphanbot that will soon notice that. SnowFire 21:24, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] My Editor Review

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Dstagemaxbox.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Dstagemaxbox.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. [edit] Fair use disputed for Image:Suikogaidenvol1box.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Suikogaidenvol1box.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:47, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Suikogaidenvol1box.jpg
Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 20:10, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Equaliser (sports)
Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Equaliser (sports), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. [edit] Notability of Fifth official
Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Fifth official, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Fifth official seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Fifth official, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. [edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Luciasuiko.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Luciasuiko.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:22, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
