Need help

Hey Tony!

Would you be so kind as to look at my RFA? I would appreciate it if people would defend me concerning my third oppose vote... this vote actually offended me because it was a.) so misinformed, b.) the guy apparently took NO time to read my answers to the three admin questions, never mind the comments of other users, and c.) it's based upon false information. I know you're one who won't hesitate to defend me here; would you please help me out? Thanks! Your friend, Linuxbeak | Talk | Desk 18:02, Jun 4, 2005 (UTC)

Re: User page

Hey Tony, thanks a lot for trying to revert my user page. It looks like it has already been taken care of. It looks like I'm a true wikipedian now: my user page has been vandalized! What a day, huh? Oh, and thanks for the congrats! It's been an interesting week, and I'm really happy that it is ending in this fashion. Linuxbeak | Talk | Desk 18:49, Jun 6, 2005 (UTC)

My RFA :Thanks

Thank you for your support on my RFA. Now that I have been promoted, I promise to be as hardworking and fair with the admin tools as I have been with the other areas here on Wikipedia. And I am also honored to have befriended you too. See you around and happy editing. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 00:54, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Re: Caption on images

Sure thing Tony. I also reloaded the images without borders. You can read how to add captions to images in our Help pages. If you need more help, just let me know. God bless, Joseph | Talk 02:56, Jun 9, 2005 (UTC)

==Hi Tony ==

Thanks for the note - and the praise - some people just moan about edits - so some praise is good! Thanks also for the comment re the names - I didn't realise this and will leave this in future - being in the UK - I don't know these subtleties - Here we still like to be called Mr XYZ! I think all articles should be illustrated if possible - as it breaks up a lot of dull text. Your articles are teaching me a lot about Puerto Rican history etc - something I've not known anything about - so I'm learning loads. Keep smiling - and drop by again :) A curate's egg 12:58, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Thank you for your support

Thank you for supporting my candidacy for administrator. Kelly Martin 15:13, Jun 10, 2005 (UTC)

Your friend Brookie

Hi Tony - glad you like the award! Isn't it nice when someone appreciates what you've done? For some more information on me: I'm 44 (nearly 45) live in the UK ; I'm married (18 years) to Martine (a lawyer) and have 2 sons Toby (14) and Guy (10). I am an Insolvency Practitioner by profession and live in a small village called Grendon in Northamptonshire. My user name relates to Lord Alanbrooke one of our finest (but almost unknown) soldiers - who is my hero! My signing tag line relates to this - aren't the Britts odd! Keep in touch. A curate's egg 11:13, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Puerto Rico

hey, what do you think about putting Puerto Rico as a candidate for featured article? I think it is a lot better now, it doesn't change that much, and the controversial issues have been dealt with already. I thought about it, but I am not THAT active here, and I've seen people been critical of "new" users that put articles for candidacy for deletion or feature article status, so I thought if you did it, it would have more weight. Take Care, desde Iowa Cjrs 79 22:05, Jun 13, 2005 (UTC)

One more thing. I'm trying to replace the missed location image in the article with the image you have on Military History of Puerto Rico. But I want to centralize it, and I can't, any ideas? Cjrs 79 00:26, Jun 14, 2005 (UTC)

Looks good to me, Tony. Excellent job! Neutralitytalk 06:32, Jun 15, 2005 (UTC)

Thank you for everything

Tony, this is way overdue, but thank you so much for your support vote and your backup on my RFA. Now that I'm an admin, I have been using my powers to better Wikipedia in general and keep things clean. I am so glad that I have had the honor of talking to you and your son, and I hope that we continue to keep in contact. Thank you for the barnstar as well; I really appreciate it! Thank you, and God bless! Linuxbeak | Talk | Desk 23:05, Jun 15, 2005 (UTC)

Thanks

Hi! thank you for your particularly kind words in support of admin candidacy. I have now been promoted, and I hope that you will always feel that I am a responsible administrator. JeremyA 05:30, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Guns N' Roses FA nomination

I recently nominated the Guns N' Roses article for FA. I had been working on it for some time now. If you have time, check it out. Thanx, boricua!<<Coburn_Pharr>> 00:26, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Request for help: PRican politicians in office

Tony, I have created the article for the 15th Legislative Assembly of Puerto Rico, ie: the current Assembly in office which includes the Senators and Representatives. I would like to see that at least the most known politicians listed there have a biography on the pedia if possible. For example, I know that it should be easy to write about Norma Burgos, Victor Garcia San Inocencio, or Antonio Faz Alzamora. Any help is appreciated. Unfortunately, the current website of the Senate doesn't have any biographies at all, but the Internet Archive has a copy of the old website with biographies from the 14th Assembly (with some Senators that were part of it and are now on the 15th as well). God bless, Joseph | Talk 05:54, Jun 18, 2005 (UTC)

Sports in Puerto Rico

I just read the article and here are some links that exist in the pedia but are not mentioned there:

Seal of the Governor

Hey hermano! I loved the detail you added to teh governors article, yet I think it would look better if the seal was below the picture of the Governor. And the Seal of the Governor part seems redundant, cuase under the picture is already says Governor of PR. Just a sugestion, but thanx for your interest on the articles.<<Coburn_Pharr>> 02:25, 19 Jun 2005 (UTC)

  • Saw the changes. It looks great! ;) <<Coburn_Pharr>> 06:34, 19 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Puerto Rico

Hey boricua, i really trust your opinion, so tell me what you think about what i worte at this user's talk page, User_talk:24.199.108.209, and check the changes he made to the Puerto Rico article. He/She says they are truth, etc, what do you think? take care. Cjrs 79 04:48, Jun 20, 2005 (UTC)

Puerto Rico again

Nice changes. I do see what that user is saying, I think we should include something about how there are different views about Puerto Rico's actual political situation, but how to say it, without sounding subjective to one POV? Anyway, I was looking at that user's other edits and all of them deal with the independece movement in Puerto Rico, an in all of them he changes small things that sound pro-independence. He talks about the macheteros as a political movement more than a paramilitary movement, for example. Well, I had my first wiki-controversy, hehe. Gracias a ti y a tu hijo. RE:Walt Disney; My Apologies

OK, Walt Disney was NOT born in Spain, and your source is incorrect. It is nothing but an urban legend, and the writer of that source either put it in there as a joke, or also believed it was legitimate. Walt Disney was born in Chicago, Illinois and was actually French-Canadian, so please make sure you are getting correct information. And please do not attack me for posting that warning. Whether you meant to vandalize or not (I'm not saying you did), you can still be penalized for it, especially for the fact that that edit had stayed online for nine hours before anyone noticed. I'm not going to report you, because you have a very good record, and I see no indication of you vandalizing anything before. I humbly apologize if you felt as if I was accusing you, but when a user spots vandalism or incorrect information, it is customary to let the writer know. Again, just make sure you double-check your information, OK? Enjoy your time on Wikipedia! --Evanwohrman 03:46, Jun 26, 2005 (UTC)

OK, first off, I did NOT threaten you. I warned you. I did NOT know your intention was a legitimate edit, even though it wasn't. I am trying to give you a sincere apology, but you are threatening me. I apologize if you think you were threatened, but you really need to make sure you are getting information from a reliable source. The Internet is not always a very reliable source. I also know that it was a good-faith edit, but anyone could assume it was bad-faith, as it is a notorious, yet false, urban legend. You are totally taking this way too seriously. I was expecting a sincere explanation as to what happened, not "Who do you think you are?" I'm sorry, but I'm trying to apologize, but you don't seem to care. --Evanwohrman 03:56, Jun 26, 2005 (UTC)
I agree, let's forget this ever happened. I apologize for starting this conflict. Peace accepted. --Evanwohrman 04:01, Jun 26, 2005 (UTC)

Caribbean Wikipedians

I would like to organise a Caribbean Wikipedians' Notice Board to build some regional community and see if we could work on improving the coverage of the broader Caribbean. I was wondering if you would be interested in such a project. It's just in the most formative of stages - I put together a list of the other Anglo-Caribbeans, although I think that there are a number of people not from the region who might be interested in participating. Anyway, let me know what you think, if you are interested. Thanks. Guettarda (Trinidad and Tobago) 30 June 2005 22:54 (UTC)

I started the page...now we can figure out "what next" - Wikipedia:Caribbean Wikipedians' notice board. Guettarda 1 July 2005 02:18 (UTC)

thanx for the "boricua" barnstar

hey thanx boricua!! I've always wanted one of those, and this one is even more special 'cause it recognizes all the Puerto Rican work I've done around wikipedia. There's still so much to do, but at least we have a core group of boricuas working on it! I'll keep in touch <<Coburn_Pharr>> 7 July 2005 02:22 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Wikiportal/Caribbean/Notable People

I added a few names to that list, but I don't know enough to select the best 2 or 3 for Puerto Rico (Munoz Marin seemed obvious, but I have a hard time judging beyond that), Dominican Republic or Cuba (again, Castro is the obvious choice, but I'm not sure who else to include). As it stands it's a bit biased to the English-speaking Caribbean, so it would be nice if you could balance it. Guettarda 7 July 2005 17:15 (UTC)

Be Bold. I don't see it as my baby at all - someone created the portal, I'm just trying to bring it up to speed. If you have any inventive ideas, go for it. Thanks. Guettarda 7 July 2005 19:53 (UTC)

Hey Tony,

Thank you so much for your comments! It figures; the day that my article gets onto the featured today status is the day I leave for Europe. I'm going to be travelling with a group called "New England Ambasadors of Music", and we're going to be spending two and a half weeks in England, France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Austria and Lictenstein.

Also, a fellow by the name of David Van Pelt would like to interview you concerning your gang days in New York. He's researching gangs from the 50's and he's got some questions to ask you. His email is david AT vanpelt DOT on DOT ca. Would you be able to send him a few lines? Thanks, Tony!

I'm out of here for a couple of weeks now; I'll talk to you when I come back. Regards, Linuxbeak | Talk | Desk 11:08, July 11, 2005 (UTC)

Did you know?

Updated DYK query Did you know? has been updated. A fact from the article Tibes Indigenous Ceremonial Center, which you recently created, has been featured in that section on the Main Page. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently-created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

Re: Friendly Chat

Thanks for the comments, man. I'm not sure if I wanna be a sysop yet, but I would really like a barnstar, however you get them :-/. I've been on WP since late last year. I don't know why I started. Mostly to share my knowlege of the world for it share. Also, like many people here, I wanna make sure the subjects of the articles are as informative and neutral as WP would let me. But it isn't easy, especially when you go edit one article, and feel it's all good with the others editing it, then edit another one to find it more difficult to deal with. How about you? How's your experiences with WP? --LBMixPro(Speak on it!) 07:17, July 15, 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the barnstar. I moved it up to the top right of my user page to look better, if you don't mind (unless there's a way I can align all my future barnstars to the right of my page). Oh yeah, did you get my reply to the Nina Sky article name issue? --LBMixPro(Speak on it!) 08:12, July 15, 2005 (UTC)

Re: Teach Me How To Download Images

The best way to know if it the image is copyright is to send an e-mail to the webmaster. If the images is hosted on a .gov or .mil website chances are the image is public domain. There are other ways to know if a work or image is public domain, and they are explain on the public domain article. Once you find the image be sure to save it on your computer by right-clicking the image and then clicking on "Save Images As" or "Save Picture As" on the menu. Remeber the folder where you saved it and then go to our uploads page. There click on the "Browse..." button and search for the image that you just saved in your computer. Write a summary on the "Summary" box and then click "Upload file". Joseph | Talk 20:40, July 17, 2005 (UTC)

to: Tony the marine

I thought if I wanted someone who was very efficient and a man of action I should ask a Marine!

With that being said, I am not sure how to register a POV complaint. Augustine is being used to attack young earth creationism and I think this is dishonest. No scholar denies that Augustine was young earth creationist (see the discussion page).

Here is the page in question and please register a POV complaint if I did it wrong.

Carlos Lozado

Hi Tony! Great to hear from you again. I'm sorry to hear that this fellow who apparently has too much time on his hands can't find anything better to do than put an excellent article up for deletion - not the first time he's done that either. I see him as an attention-seeker who delights in making extra work for the rest of us. Anyway, I've voted to keep your article - a most interesting article it is, too. I'm still going to get you and Antonio a synopsis of my Europe trip, but I've got a few other things to deal with first. Collateral damage from blocking

Hi, I recieved your email regarding the accidental block. I did not actually block your username, apparently what happens is that when a blocked user (in this case the original vandal I was blocking) attempts to reedit, the IP he is editing from is autoblocked. Unfortunetely the vandal was using AOL which randomly assigns new IP's every time the user logs in, as luck would have it, you ended up with his blocked IP when you signed on. I have unblocked the IP's in question, and I apologize for the inconvenience. Please let me know if this did not solve the problem -Loren 06:22, 21 August 2005 (UTC)

Nina Sky

Hi Tony. I'm fine thank you - nice to meet you.

You are very correct to try and ensure that all contributors of, and contributions to, an article are maintained through the history. What I have done is to swap the histories of Natalie and Nicole Albino and Nina Sky. I've also created a new template that is used to point to the history of the other (merged) article. I think this is perhaps the best solution.

The reason I wouldn't recommend combining the histories is that the two articles grew at the same time and would overlap. When comparing two version you wouldn't know if you were looking at what used to be the Nina Sky or what used to be the other, and the text comparison would look very odd. I don't think you were wanting them merged anyway so I'm hoping what I've done is what you were after. If not then by all means come along and let me know, though I will be away for a week starting tomorrow.
