[edit] Your contributions

Hi Mariano2008,

I just took a glance through your contributions, and I wanted to stop by to talk to you about the articles you're creating. As best as I can tell, nearly every one of your considerable creations is a timeline of news events from around the world. This is wonderful, and I commend you for the hard work you're doing, but there's a small problem. See, in order to keep Wikipedia focused on its goal of being the best encyclopedia in the world, the community has come up with a list of what Wikipedia is not. Sadly, one of those items notes that Wikipedia is not a news source, which means that the articles you're creating are running afoul of this criteria.

The good news, though, is that there are outlets where your energy can be better spent! If you haven't already, I'd suggest you check out either Wikinews or Wikipedia portals, both of which could find a good use for the kind of information you're gathering. In particular, a number of portals maintain lists of important anniversaries, and so I'm sure pages like Portal:China and Portal:Argentina would be more than glad for the help.

If you opt to leave the articles up as they are, though, I have to tell you that they will likely be deleted. For example, I recently nominated a series of articles very similar to the ones you're creating for deletion--every article was deleted as a result of the discussion.

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but please don't hesitate to ask any questions you might have! --jonny-mt 03:32, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] AfD Nomination: 2007 in Costa Rica

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, but all Wikipedia articles must meet our criteria for inclusion (see What Wikipedia is not and Deletion policy). Since it does not seem that 2007 in Costa Rica meets these criteria, an editor has started a discussion about whether this article should be kept or deleted.

Your opinion on whether this article meets the inclusion criteria is welcome. Please contribute to the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/2007 in Costa Rica. Don't forget to add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of each of your comments to sign them.

Discussions such as these usually last five days. In the meantime, you are free to edit the content of the article. Please do not remove the "articles for deletion" template (the box at the top). When the discussion has concluded, a neutral third party will consider all comments and decide whether or not to delete the article. jonny-mt 04:56, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] I owe you an apology

Hi Mariano2008,

I think the heading line says it all. If you take a look at the deletion discussion above, you will notice that the community overwhelmingly rejected my interpretation of the WP:NOT#NEWS policy. As such, my advice to you above was absolutely wrong, and I apologize. While the message was intended to help you focus your efforts in what I saw as a more appropriate area, it seems now that you were doing it right all along.

I notice that you haven't made another edit since I left you that notice, and for this I feel responsible. Despite what I thought about the venue, your edits were of consistently high quality, and I would encourage you to come back and continue your work.

Once again, my sincerest apologies. I really hope you come back and, if you ever need a helping hand, that you feel free to drop me a line. --jonny-mt 09:02, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
