Hello, MarianKroy, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions so far. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

If you need help, post a question at the Help Desk or ask me on my talk page.

It is always wise to read the talk page of an existing article before making major changes on it, to see if your idea has already been discussed. Even then, it is often helpful to suggest a major change before making it, to see if anyone objects or wants to discuss it. Please do not delete materials on other people's talk pages or on the talk pages of articles.

This is my Talk page. I really don't know why it exists.

Hello, Marian. Here's why: So people can congratulate you on a job well done, like at Annie Get Your Gun. Also, so people can discuss their Wikipedia projects. If you like musicals, check out WP:MUSICALS, where we discuss musical theatre articles on Wikipedia. Best regards! -- Ssilvers (talk) 22:03, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

Oh! Also, I see from your User page that you are a Musical theatre history fan, so check out these two articles: Musical theatre and Edwardian musical comedy. There is also a WP:G&S Gilbert and Sullivan project, if you like G&S. Best regards, -- Ssilvers (talk) 22:06, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, I'm so excited to get started on Wikipedia! MarianKroy (talk) 14:56, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

LOL! I've been here for almost two years, and I still love it. Please do take a look at the links that I listed at the top of the page. They will help you get started. Also, if you like "How To" books, there is a new book about using Wikipedia: Wikipedia: The Missing Manual. Best regards, -- Ssilvers (talk) 16:24, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

I'm taking a look at your excellent Evita plot summary. Some tips on linking: After you bluelink something once, you should not bluelink it again. Also, if something has no article, it generally should not be linked with a redlink, unless you plan to write an article about it very soon. Also, common words like "actor" don't need to be linked. See WP:OVERLINK. Also, you should break very long paragraphs up into paragraphs of more manageable size. Take a look at how I did this with the Evita Act I summary. I'm working on Act II right now. Best regards, -- Ssilvers (talk) 16:56, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

I threw some content into Bye Bye Birdie (film), but it is pretty late, and what I put in is pretty messy, so feel free to fix/delete/replace! But the two articles are separated now. Happy editing! -- Ssilvers (talk) 04:57, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks! I've been really busy lately, and I greatly appreciate your help!MarianKroy (talk) 21:48, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to WikiProject Musical Theatre!

Thank you for adding your name to our project membership list! Our goal is to make Wikipedia the foremost compendium of musical theatre to be found on the internet: hope you're up to the challenge! As a project member, you might like to introduce yourself on our talk page and maybe add the project membership userbox to your user page.

If you haven't done so already, please add our main project page to your watchlist and browse our page of useful templates. When you have a moment, please take some time to review our article structure guidelines for musicals, which, after months of collaboration, we developed through consensus as our recommended structure for articles on musicals. If you would like suggestions about where to start, we've gathered a few suggestions in the Project to do list and in our tasklist.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask on the project talk page or on my talk page. Again, welcome and happy editing!

[edit] Musicals

Your user page is lookin' good! What's your next project on a musicals subject? Hope you're enjoying the Spring. -- Ssilvers (talk) 01:45, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks! Last summer I got this really amazing musical theatre book from a library about 45 minutes away from where I live. I've requested it again through interlibrary loan, so it should come any day now. It's got really extensive plot descriptions, so I'm going to use it as a major reference. Good News! 1927 plot will probably be first, and after that I might work on Camelot. I just looked at She Loves Me, and even though it's a minor show it deserves some better information. I can get started on that today maybe. Is there anything else that really needs work?MarianKroy (talk) 16:28, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

That's certainly enough to start on, but there are about 1,000 musicals articls on Wikipedia, so there is plenty to choose from. I think that Camelot and She Loves Me are great choices. My Fair Lady could use a better plot summary, for one. Hello, Dolly! (musical) is anemic. I would start with shows that are your favorites and go from there. All the best! -- Ssilvers (talk) 17:30, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for working on the "My Fair Lady" synopsis, but I hope you can finish it up soon, because right now it is in sort of a disorganized state. All the best! -- Ssilvers (talk) 06:18, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

Sorry about that. It's done now.MarianKroy (talk) 18:59, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

Great job! I tried to slim it down a little bit. Check it to make sure I didn't mess any of the facts up. Looking forward to your next rescue operation! -- Ssilvers (talk) 01:48, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Photo

I moved it to the top. If you get an official show poster or album cover to put in an infobox, we can always move the photo back down to the synopsis then. I think the photo captions should say which production they are from. Best regards, -- Ssilvers (talk) 23:55, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

The photos are actually from the 2007 Litchfield, Illinois production. It'd be great to have Glen Rose images, but I know the Litchfield ones are free. I'll try to get a poster image.MarianKroy (talk) 00:45, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks yourself!

You did all the work; I just gave it a quick once over. Looking forward to Act II - You're doing a great job, as always! -- Ssilvers (talk) 20:41, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

The Working Woman's Barnstar
I hereby award you this Working Woman's Barnstar in appreciation of the fine work you have been doing to improve plot synopses and other sections of Wikipedia's musical theatre articles. Though a relatively new editor here, you are already making an important contribution to the quality of these articles. -- Ssilvers (talk) 20:48, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Feel free to copy this barnstar onto your user page if you like - that's what a lot of people do! -- Ssilvers (talk) 20:48, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Awww...thanks! My first Barnstar!MarianKroy (talk) 21:04, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Next?

Hello, Marian. I'm looking forward to your next wikiproject.  :) -- Ssilvers (talk) 16:23, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks! I've had two migranes in the last four days:(, but hopefully I'll get started on something soon.MarianKroy (talk) 18:10, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

No problem. Feel better! - Health is more important than Wikipedia! BTW, use a colon (:) at the margin if you want to indent your text. Putting a space there makes a crazy box. All the best! -- Ssilvers (talk) 18:40, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi. You don't need to ask before expanding plot summaries in musicals/film articles, because you're just taking stubby little summaries and making them into beautiful ones. You're particularly good at it, so just dig in. Just try to keem them down to a reasonable length. Happy Editing! -- Ssilvers (talk) 21:57, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

If you're feeling energetic, Leave It To Jane (1917), Oh, Lady! Lady! (1918) and Oh, My Dear! (1918). Don't seem to have any articles at all. You could do an article on one or more of them using some of the same references you used for Oh, Boy!. BTW, what version of "The Wizard of Oz" did you do? All the best, -- Ssilvers (talk) 16:47, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks! The resources I'm using are rather show-specific, and for unknown reasons two of the musical reference books I've been using had a great deal of information about Oh, Boy!. I don't have much on the ones you suggested. Sorry :(. I think I might start working on Oh, Kay! (which I have more references for) sometime next week, if that's all right. I will be away from my computer for the next few days, so if I start anything new it'll be on Monday. I think we did the RSC version of "The Wizard of Oz."MarianKroy (talk) 17:05, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Cool. Is the RSC version a musical of the film, using the film music, or something else? There doesn't seem to be an article about the stage musical? Best regards, -- Ssilvers (talk) 17:43, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

It's a musical version of the film, and it uses all the songs from the film, plus "The Jitterbug", which was cut from the film. I think the goal of the writers was to replicate the film onstage to the extent possible. There isn't an article for it, and that surprises me.MarianKroy (talk) 02:20, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

If you have enough info on it to put together an article, that seems like a good project. Whatever you choose, Happy Editing! -- Ssilvers (talk) 03:46, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Oh, Kay!

Thanks for the new info in Oh, Kay! Can you add the page numbers from the references in the background and productions section? Just write <ref>Gänzl, p. 25</ref> or whatever the right citation is. Happy editing! -- Ssilvers (talk) 23:04, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Another super job! If you want to see my current project, it's Trial by Jury. All the best, -- Ssilvers (talk) 21:00, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks! Trial by Jury looks amazing! MarianKroy (talk) 01:44, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

We're going to nominate it for WP:Good Article review as soon as we can fill in a couple more cites. Then we'll get comments from the GA reviewer and respond to them. If you have any suggestions/comments/questions, I'd love to hear them - it would be nice to hear what a reader thinks who is not too prejudiced by Wikipedia "style". All the best, -- Ssilvers (talk) 03:30, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Ok, here goes: I added a link to Nellie Bromley in the Production and Aftermath section. I think that should be non-controversial. Also, is Trial by Jury often referred to as Trial by operetta fans? Is it acceptable to refer to it by a somewhat casual title in a reference work? This may just be my weird preference, but I prefer to refer to musicals, books, etc. by thier full titles. In my opinion, it's a little off-putting to hear or read someone refer to Les Miserables as "Les Mis". It's like they believe their familiarity with the piece grants them the right to refer to it in a shortened form, making them obviously superior to the plebians who obviously have no appreciation for theatre and refer to it by the actual title! Ok, sorry about that. It's an odd pet peeve of mine. I'm not that familiar with operetta conventions, so if Trial is considered acceptable, I won't complain any more. In the Production and Aftermath section contains the line, "In short, it was an instant success." I think a reader should be able to tell from the descriptions of the critical and public response to Trial by Jury that it was an instant success. Those are my suggestions. Feel free to ignore them if they're irrelevant or incompatible with Wikipedia "style". It's a great article! MarianKroy (talk) 15:03, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for looking at it. I think that it's a pretty standard convention in the encyclopedia that once you use the full name of something, you can then use a short form of the name (at least some of the time). I don't think it's lack of appreciation, just a convenience. Was there any place where you saw Trial and was not sure what we were referring to, or where you thought it was jarring? If so, then we should repeat the full name again. I agree with your "instant success" comment, but that was written by my co-conspirator, Shoemaker, and I don't want to step on his toes. Would you mind putting that comment on the Trial by Jury talk page, so he can see that an independent readers has that reaction. Best regrds, -- Ssilvers (talk) 15:24, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

I'm all right with Trial if it's standard convention. I'll post that comment right now!MarianKroy (talk) 19:06, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

It turns out that another reader felt the same as you did about shortening the name, so I put in the full name throughout. -- Ssilvers (talk) 04:53, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
