From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hello Marco Polo and welcome to Wikipedia! Hope you like it here, and stick around.
Here are some tips to help you get started:
- To sign your posts (on talk pages, for example) use the '~' symbol. To insert just your name, type ~~~ (3 tildes), or, to insert your name and timestamp, use ~~~~ (4 tildes).
- Try the Tutorial, and feel free to experiment in the test area.
- If you need help, post a question at the Help Desk
- Follow the Wikipedia:Simplified Ruleset
- Eventually, you might want to read the Manual of Style and Policies and Guidelines.
- Remember Wikipedia:Neutral point of view
- Explore, be bold in editing pages, and, most importantly, have fun!
Good luck! {{unblock|This is a school's communal address and is used by many users, some of which are malignant. However, I am a legitimate user, as you can see in my history, and I was wondering if you could unblock just my user without unblocking the IP.}}
- Sorry, not until WP:BPP comes into force. You'll need to tell me what your IP is if you want it unblocked. It will tell you in the message that comes up when you try to edit a page. --Sam Blanning(talk) 14:12, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:SithSpeeder.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:SithSpeeder.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).
The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}
.
Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. cholmes75 (chit chat) 16:06, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Possibly unfree Image:Rebel Infiltrator.jpg
[edit] Re:You reverted my edit!
This is a pretty trivial matter, but anyway... I reverted your "delightful" edit because the image you added looked tacky. It is hardly the custom for subject userboxes to contain pictures. and it looks terrible. Rest assured, however, that we're all just as amazed that you can use LaTeX. WOW! --Kronecker 09:58, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Democratslogo.svg and Image:Republicanlogo.svg
You know, writing a tutorial on how this PNG→SVG conversion is done would be very useful, IMO. I am basically incompetent at graphic editing, but if I could take a high-res bitmap and translate it to vector, that would be cool. — ChristTrekker 18:32, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:-s-YMCAlogo.svg)
Thanks for uploading Image:-s-YMCAlogo.svg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Gay Cdn (talk) (Contr.) 21:45, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, Image:Image5.svg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. [edit] Fair use rationale for Image:1CdoRegt badge.svg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:1CdoRegt badge.svg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. [edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:1CdoRegt badge.svg
Thanks for uploading Image:1CdoRegt badge.svg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 10:36, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Democratslogo.svg
A separate fair use rationale is required for each article. Save-Me-Oprah(talk) 23:58, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
